An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, dynamic and highly motivated nurse or ODP to join the Orthopaedic Theatre Band 6 Team.
Applicants must have a working knowledge of trauma and Orthopaedics. They must be caring, professional, organised and resourceful with an ability to remain calm under pressure as well as possessing excellent interpersonal skills.
The successful applicant will be expected to participate in the clinical leadership of the Orthopaedic team and will be involved with the supervision and training of junior and new staff members.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will hold a strong credibility within trauma and elective Orthopaedic surgery and hold extensive knowledge of the speciality.
A positive approach to the work environment which focuses on supporting and motivating others is essential and the successful candidate will be responsible for assisting and leading the team to provide a safe, patient focused and efficient service.
Act as a positive role model, leading by example, mentoring, teaching, supporting and developing students and junior members of the team.
A minimum of 3 years current or recent Orthopaedic theatre experience is required.
This post is open to both NMC registered Nurses and HCPC registered Operating Department Practitioners.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Deliver evidence based patient care and participate in clinical audit as part of the Perioperative team. Initiate improvements in care delivery in consultation with Team Manager and multidisciplinary team.
Identify and communicate changes in planned care to Theatre Coordinator/Team Manager where appropriate. Supervise the staff within the allocated team acknowledging when to give support.
Ensure written records are accurate and legible, enter data into theatre IT system, taking action in situations where the quality of the data may be affected. Supervise staff using the IT system.
Work within NMC/HCPC codes of conduct and within professional guidelines. Work is managed not supervised and the post holder will work independently after appropriate in-service training.
Take responsibility for delegated tasks including maintaining stock levels of specialist items associated with clinical area.
Act as an effective role model.
Take responsibility for the day-to-day supervision of staff within allocated area, organise effective use of staff time for efficient care delivery.
Follow the Trusts Health and Safety Policy to provide a safe environment for patients, carers, their families and staff.
Report any faults or concerns with equipment or services, withdrawing equipment from use if necessary and ensuring repair if appropriate.
Ensure all data collection and processing undertaken is consistently accurate and timely and complies with the Trust Data Quality Policy and local procedures.
Undertake MPA’s.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- NMC/HCPC Registration
- 998, Mentorship or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- Assessing qualification for NVQ students D32/33 or A1 Award
- 176/183/N33 or other qualification in Perioperative care
Experience
Essential criteria
- Minimum of 3 years Orthopaedic theatre experience
- Ability to lead and co-ordinate a team
- Ability to cope well with change
- Ability to prioritise
Desirable criteria
- Ability to work unsupervised clinically
Communication

- Good verbal and written skills
