Gastroenterology & Hepatology Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist

Band 7

Job overview

As a Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist within our Gastroenterology and Hepatology Department, you'll play a crucial role in the clinical management of patients with upper GI and hepatobiliary cancer. Working both independently and collaboratively with multidisciplinary professionals, you'll ensure that our service maintains consistently high standards, contributing significantly to patient outcomes for those with suspected or diagnosed cancer.

While your primary base will be Peterborough City Hospital, some cross-site working may be required to effectively meet the needs of our patients. If you're passionate about making a difference in the lives of cancer patients and thrive in a collaborative healthcare environment, we encourage you to apply.

If you're ready to make a significant impact on the lives of cancer patients and contribute to our commitment to excellence in care, we encourage you to join our team.

Please note that we can only consider applications from individuals with a live NMC registration or UK nursing students awaiting their PIN, as we are currently unable to support OSCE.

Previous applicants need not apply

Main duties of the job

Your responsibilities will include attending Upper GI and HPB multi-disciplinary meetings and coordinating patient pathways for upper GI and HPB oncology cases, including suspected and confirmed cancer cases.

Operating at a specialist enhanced practitioner level, you'll facilitate early assessment, support diagnosis, and prompt treatment of patients within our Trust, whether in the inpatient or outpatient setting. With a focus on clinical expertise, you'll be instrumental in initiating, performing, and upholding standards of clinical excellence.

You'll also utilise your expert knowledge to respond to patient telephone inquiries, assessing and addressing their symptoms, concerns, and needs effectively.

Additionally, you'll be actively involved in running and attending upper GI cancer clinics, ensuring that investigations are appropriately requested and communicated to patients. Attendance at Upper GI and HPB MDT meetings is essential, where you'll ensure that outcome actions are effectively communicated to clinicians and facilitate communication with tertiary centres to expedite diagnostics and escalate any delays.
