Clare Lodge is a secure children’s home located on the outskirts of Peterborough. We work within a trauma informed model of care with a group of children (12-18 females only) who have been placed by the courts in order to secure their welfare and improve their overall wellbeing.
The unit is run by the local authority, and we operate as a in reach health team commissioned by NHSE and located onsite. Our work has developed, and we now have a large multi- disciplinary team consisting of Psychiatry, Psychology, Nursing, AHP’s and admin support. We are a supportive, friendly, and committed team working within a wider team of local authority and education staff and we are looking for a likeminded Specialist Mental Health Nurse (Band 7) within the setting and join us in helping us achieve positive outcomes for the children placed with us.
Extended hours
Our team offer an extended hours service to Clare Lodge. This means that Monday to Friday we cover the hours of 9am- 9.30pm. The team work across two shifts: 9am-5pm or 1.30pm-9.30pm. The post holder will work a combination of shifts on a rota basis. The team also offer a Saturday 1pm- 5pm shift, which we cover on a rota.
This post’s working hours will cover a variety of these shifts, but not exceed 37.5 hours per week.

The Specialist Mental Health Nurse will provide trauma informed risk assessments, standardised and specialist mental health assessment, intervention and safety planning for young people living at Clare Lodge.
The post holder will be confident in delivering group work and be able to assertively engage with young people on an individual basis who may have experienced disrupted engagement with health services in the community.
This job will involve considerable amounts of multiagency working with the wider professional network around the young person. It is expected that the post-holder can complete reports to a high standard as well as good quality referrals to external agencies to facilitate a safe transition for the young person into the community or alternative identified setting.
The Specialist Mental Health Nurse will be a Named Health Professional, in line with the Healthcare Standards for Children in Secure Care and will act as a complex care coordinator for the young person. The Specialist Mental Health Nurse will represent the young person’s views, develop, and lead on individual care planning.

- To provide trauma Informed mental health assessment and, where appropriate, treatment to young people within a psychology led in reach health team daily.
- Liaise and work with consultant psychiatrist and wider team to assess, monitor and treat identified mental health difficulties.
- Assertively engage young people through direct work on a weekly basis as part of the Named Health Professional Role, this will include complex care-coordination with multiagency partners with colleagues.
- Actively contribute and engage with the transition process with the young person and completing high quality referrals to national health and community resources to ensure that the young person receives consistent and uninterrupted health care.
- Where identified as appropriate and within an agreed framework, commit to offering follow up and outreach work to the young person once they have left Clare Lodge
- Deliver mental health interventions and support within the Attachment, Regulation and Competencies Trauma Informed Model.
- Provide comprehensive mental health and diagnostic assessments demonstrating the appropriate use, interpretation, and integration of data from a variety of sources including, self- report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi- structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the client’s care,
- Deliver a range of evidence-based trauma informed interventions appropriate to the young person’s formulation.
- Act as Named Health Professional in line with National Health Care Standards for Young People in Secure Care.
- Support with standardised and specialist neuro-disability assessments for children in secure care including information gathering from health agencies who have previously worked with young person.
- To provide practical and emotional support to encourage parents and residential staff to take a proactive approach to the mental and emotional health needs of the young person.

- To work in partnership with parents and residential staff within the individual psychological formulation for the young person
- To lead on sharing holistic health needs of the young person to professional meetings centred around the young person.
- To develop on comprehensive trauma informed health care plans developed in partnership with the young person which will include mental health, physical health and emotional wellbeing.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive clinical records and notes and complete reports to a high standard.
- Direct work with the young person to promote independence, develop life skills, and support safe transition from Clare Lodge.
- Identifying and referring to appropriate health services as part of the young person’s transition from Clare Lodge into a community setting.
- Offer a range of group work with support from the MDT.
- Contribute to clinical risk assessments regarding a young person’s physical and mental health.
- Keep accurate and comprehensive records and reports contemporaneously in accordance with the NMC.
- Ensure that Child Protection and safeguarding policy and practice remains embedded within the service and that issues are addressed and LSCB guidelines adhered to,
- To deliver and develop specialized training regarding adolescent mental health to other professionals within the wider network as appropriate.

Experience

- Experience of working with vulnerable children and their families
- Significant experience working at band 6 level or equivalent in a mental health service and or liaising and working with other professionals
- Experience of working with young people with complex health needs
- Working knowledge of Safeguarding Children Procedures
- Relevant experience of working with vulnerable children and young people
- Experience and underpinning knowledge of child and adolescent mental health in the context of trauma and related difficulties including substance misuse and self-injurious behaviour
- Experience of working within an MDT
- Experience of consulting and liaising with other healthcare/social care professionals
