Our Research Team is pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic registered nurse to join our E&M Team. The post will focus on studies within the cardiology and respiratory specialities, we welcome applicants with experience from these areas. As workload dictates cross clinical divisions will be required. 

The posts will be band 5/6 development or band 6 with evidence of essential experience. There is scope to increase to a B6, dependant on achieving relevant clinical research competencies.

A nursing background in medicine or research is essential. Successful candidates will assist in the delivery of high quality research. You will be based at Hinchingbrooke Hospital with a requirement of cross-site.

Your research skills and knowledge acquired through proven CCPD will add great value to our research team formed of both clinical and non clinical staff, local clinicians, and relevant research networks aiming to develop and deliver high quality research activity.

You will work collaboratively with local R&D members to assess capacity & capability for research studies.
Work with members of the research teams to inform potential participants of appropriate projects.

Training will be however all candidates are required to familiarise themselves with GCP.

You will be working effectively within our clinical research team across the Trust supporting the staff, manage caseload of patients.

You will maintain effective communication with patients, carers and professionals to ensure service delivery. You will provide research information to patients and their relatives, and act as a resource and support to them, explaining practical aspects of clinical research.

Patients’ consent in research is very important. Therefore, you facilitate the informed consent process, in compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP), ensuring that the patient and relatives fully understand the nature of the research.

A main responsibility of your role will be ensuring that the study-specific investigations are undertaken as required by the research protocol, to ensure safety of study participants  safety to enter the study.

As part of your research duties, you will monitor treatment toxicity/side effects and ensure changes to treatment as required by the research protocol. You will arrange collection of blood and any other research samples required as part of the clinical research, and ensure safe and appropriate storage of specimens in conjunction with local clinical and nursing teams, phlebotomy and laboratory staff.

Education and Qualifications

  • NMC registered Nurse with experience in clinical research or acute nursing
  • Evidence of relevant post registration qualifications in acute nursing and/or research
  • Knowledge of Research Design Networks
  • Evidence of continuous personal and professional development
  • Leadership qualification or willingness to work towards obtaining

Experience

  • Extensive post registration experience of working clinically within the Emergency and Medicine Division and/or Research
  • Collaborating with other agencies
  • Demonstrate experience at a band 6 or Senior Band 5 level
  • Explaining complex concepts to patients
  • Experience of using MS Office and Excel spreadsheet
