We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our friendly, dedicated, and supportive team. 

The CAMHS Eating Disorders Service provides an outpatient service offering evidence-based treatment approaches to children and young people up to the age of 18 and their families / carers. We offer support county-wide support and have clinics based in Peterborough, Huntingdon and Cambridge. We work closely with other agencies and continue to strengthen our links with the local acute paediatric services.

The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is a clinical leader who ensures that the highest standards of evidenced based nursing care are provided. The post holder will provide inspirational specialist nursing leadership within the multi-disciplinary team, including specialist assessments and nursing interventions to service users.

This post is central to the delivery of clinically based support, education, training and development of the team. Working in partnership with the Team Manager and Clinical Lead the post holder will develop and embed evidence based clinical nursing practice within the team through implementation and facilitation of clinically based education, training and skills development for nurses. 

The CNS is a clinical specialist in Child and Adolescent mental health and is knowledgeable and skilled in managing groups and teams. The main part of this role is to support children and young people in the community to receive treatment for eating disorders. The CNS will have their own area of clinical skill/interest and will provide direct clinical work within the service.

There will also be liaison work with the Tier 4 inpatient units and the paediatric wards across the county. This role will help to support the implementation and have a role in managing the medical monitoring within the service.

The CNS will work collaboratively with the leadership team and MDT to achieve service and wider objectives

1.    To ensure that a therapeutic milieu is maintained by supporting the multi-disciplinary team and the therapeutic structure

2.    To take a lead role in ensuring that a high standard of multi-disciplinary care planning is in place and to be accountable for the nursing contribution to the process. To ensure that the multi-disciplinary team provide accurate and high-quality patient records

3.    Assist in meeting the required standards for the Access and Waiting Times through collaboration with the leadership team and other forums to support the delivery of appropriate risk assessment, risk management, care planning and treatment intervention

4.    Responsibility for overseeing physical health equipment and resources and maintaining robust physical risk management plans for service users

5.    To be part of the wider CAMHS on call service, providing crisis support for service users at weekends on the paediatric wards, which is on a rota basis. 

6.    To contribute to staff supervision, both group and individual

7.    To support the team to improve their understanding of the client group.

8.    To maintain personal and professional development by providing direct clinical work to individuals and their families with appropriate evidence-based intervention e.g. FT-AN, FT-BN, CBT-E etc.

9.    To participate and support in delivering parent/ carer and siblings psycho-education groups

10. To participate in research and audit in the clinical field

11. To encourage and develop service user and carer involvement

12. To support the Directorate with the investigation process and learning lessons from serious incidents and complaints

  • Completion of Mentorship Course or intention to complete.
  • Evidence of continuous professional development

Experience

  • Experience of supervising staff, clinically
  • Extensive experience of providing a range of clinical interventions to people in the designated care pathway
  • Extensive experience of conducting clinical assessments including risk assessments
  • Experience of partnership working within and across various statutory and non- statutory teams and agencies
  • Extensive experience of working within the CPA process
  • Experience of contributing to safeguarding children processes i.e. making referrals, attendance of child protection conferences.

  • Post qualifying experience of working with eating disorders

Knowledge & Understanding
