CPFT are delighted to offer you the opportunity to be part of the CAMHS Crisis Team, supporting children and young people.

Our aim is to provide multi skilled team  support to families and young people in Crisis by delivering short-term, recovery-focused interventions. We are looking for practitioners who are passionate, dynamic, and skilled and ready for a new challenge to improve children’s experiences. The Team will have experienced clinical leaders working alongside support staff to deliver planned episodes of care and ensure young people have access to appropriate support.

Ideally you will have experience working with complex family issues and be able to demonstrate our Trust values (Professionalism, Respect, Innovation, Diversity and Empowerment) in delivering care and working as part of a team.

This system-wide service works collaboratively across multiple sectors, including social care and education, to ensure that the children and young people's acute mental health needs are shared, understood and that risk management plans are jointly agreed.

CAMHS Crisis Care Practitioners provide brief clinical risk and mental health assessment, formulation and short-term contingency planning for children and young people presenting in mental health crisis. To provide short term, intensive mental health intervention for children and adolescents with complex mental health need.

You will work collaboratively with other Mental Health Services across the system as well as Acute Hospitals, Ambulance Service, the Police, Education and Social Care to provide risk and mental health assessment, formulation and contingency planning for children and young people presenting in Crisis.

  1. Provide evidence based clinical interventions, making autonomous clinical decisions about own professional practice.
  2. Responsibility for the development, planning and implementation of brief care and treatment interventions for individual children and young people.
  3. Provide assessment, planning and implementation of individual packages of care and treatment.
  4. Ensure that individual episodes of care are delivered in a timely, effective and integrated manner.
  5. Provide Supervision to Band 4 Crisis Support Workers
  6. Promote a recovery model that empowers patients, carers and relatives to be at the forefront of decision making and ownership of their packages of care and treatment.
  7. Undertake clinical risk assessments, based on latest empirical evidence and compliant with local policies and procedures.
  8. Act as the patients and relatives advocate.
  9. Enable patients and carers to manage disability, loss and change
  10. Champion patients’ rights, including: dignity, equality, diversity, choice and respect.
  11. When undertaking all of the above ensure good documentation is provided and entered within the appropriate systems of record sharing. Support Audit of clinical record keeping.
  12. CAMHS Crisis Care Practitioners will provide brief clinical risk and mental health assessment, formulation and short-term contingency planning for children and young people presenting in mental health crisis to A&E and in accordance with the operational policy

Please note for this role you will be required to travel independently around the county meeting strict time deadlines. You will need to hold a full UK driving licence* and have use of a vehicle. You cannot use public transport for this role as this is not a reliable form of transport and will not allow you to meet service needs.   • Mental Health Nurse/Social work qualification or Registered Nurse with CAMHS experience
  • Current NMC/HCPC Registration appropriate to the job role
  • Evidence of continuing professional development

  • Specific training in either family work or psychological approaches to helping young people
  • Teaching (clinical practice)

Experience

  • Experience of risk assessment and management
  • Multi-agency working/working across service interfaces
  • Working within a multicultural framework

  • Previous experience of working in a CAMHS or other child and adolescent community or inpatient setting which may be relevant to the post
  • Teaching, training and/or supervision of clinical staff

  • Communicating (oral and written) complex/highly technical and clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS

  • The ability to demonstrate excellent clinical skills relevant to the clinical area
  • Able to demonstrate commitment to high quality care and service provision
  • An understanding of the principles of working with children, young people and their families
  • Models of care and treatment relevant to working with children and young people in mental health crisis
  • Evidence of continuing professional development. Sound knowledge of Mental Health Act, Care Act, Mental Capacity Act
