You will work as an independent Consultant Nurse employing a high degree of autonomy, to deliver a comprehensive service to patients with hydrocephalus and disorders of Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) dynamics, with a particular focus on the management of Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH).
Following the establishment of a multidisciplinary service for the management of normal pressure hydrocephalus, the postholder will form part of a team consisting of neurosurgeons, specialist nurses, physiotherapists, neuropsychologists, infusion technicians and a service co-ordinator.
The post is structured around the four core functions of Consultant Practice as set out in the multi-professional consultant-level practice capability and impact framework, which include: (i) Expert practice, (ii)
Strategic and enabling leadership, (iii) Learning, developing, and improving across the system, and (iv) Innovation and research.
As part of their role, youwill provide expert professional advice to patients, carers and colleagues, provide education and training to other staff and students, ensure the maintenance of clinical excellence within the hydrocephalus service, and undertake practice innovation and research within their specialist area.
Main duties of the job
Manage and lead a specialist service with responsibility for ensuring high quality, cost-effective healthcare or Manage and lead a workforce of specialist nurses (i.e. across a Di-vision)
Responsible for the assessment, planning, diagnosis im-plementation and evaluation of care, as an autonomous practitioner with highly specialist
Be involved in the strategic review of clinical services as appropriate
Be responsible for implementing a clearly defined inte-grated approach to patient care encompassing new treat-ments and evidence based care

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered professional with Nursing and Midwifery Council.
- Masters degree in relevant health care area.
- Up-to-date professional portfolio demonstrating evidence of personal and professional development.
- Leadership course.
Desirable criteria
- PhD/Professional Doctorate/DPhil
- Teaching qualification
- Quality Improvement qualification
- Coaching qualification
- After Action Review facilitator training
- Independent prescriber accreditation
Experience
Essential criteria
- Substantial post-registration experience with relevant clinical field; recent senior experience in the field.
- Evidence of significant effective leadership in a senior clinical position.
- Line management experience.
- Demonstrable experience of leading service and/or quality improvement
- Demonstrable experience of clinical teaching.
- A track record of scholarship and publication, sufficient to have inspired recognition as an expert and innovator in the field.
- Demonstrable experience of innovation and research, including experience of clinical research delivery.
- Experience of multidisciplinary working.
- Current experience as professional representative/ advisor on regional/national bodies.
- Significant experience in developing polices and standard operational procedures.
- Significant experience of quality governance principles, specifically: risk; benchmarking against standards; continuous improvement.
- Experience of lead author for reports for governance purposes, for both internal and external requirements.

- Proficiency in clinical assessment and CSF-related procedures, including lumbar puncture, reservoir taps, and performing CSF infusion studies
