We are a large tertiary diabetes centre based at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Trust supporting an extensive cohort of people living with diabetes across Cambridgeshire and surrounding areas. We consider ourselves to be at the cutting edge of diabetes management, integrating research into our everyday working. We have a comprehensive plan to support the roll out of hybrid closed loop technology to our population of people with Type 1 diabetes who are eligible . We already support approximately 1200 people using insulin pump technology and we are prepared and excited to see this grow further. We are looking to recruit an experienced Diabetes Specialist Nurse to join our award winning diabetes multi-disciplinary team. We require someone motivated and forward thinking to help us drive improvements to service delivery.

You will have demonstratable experience of working as a diabetes specialist with proven clinical skills and experience of supporting people with diabetes using insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitoring. You will be committed, organised, computer literate and able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills.

The job will comprise of some inpatient and outpatient work with a greater emphasis of supporting people with Type 1 diabetes commencing and using hybrid closed loop technology. The job will include some weekend working and on call responsibilities.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is a recognised expert in the specialty of Diabetes, responsible for assessing, developing and implementing specialist nursing care programmes and undertaking specialist nursing procedures

Responsible for providing specialist advice and support to, and liaising with, other staff. This includes the provision of specialist education and training for other staff and students

Responsible for implementing a clearly defined integrated approach to patient care encompassing new treatments and evidence based care

Required to undertake research and lead clinical audits in own specialist area

There is an expectation you can cover all general areas of the service if required, for more specialist elements of the service training would be provided
