Job overview

Newly Qualified or experienced Nurse. 

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work on a 22 bedded multi speciality  Elective Surgical Ward at Wycombe Hospital. 

We are looking to recruit a keen, enthusiastic, highly motivated and dynamic individual to deliver and drive high standards of safe patient care.

We have some excellent opportunities for you to expand your clinical skills and be part of our friendly, supportive, proactive team.

In-house specialist training is provided and we actively promote professional development and strive to offer a learning environment where staff feel empowered to enhance their knowledge and skills.

If you are a newly qualified nurse, you will be supported through the Trusts 1 year preceptorship programme. 

For experienced nurses, your development will be tailored to your individual needs along with a specifically designed surgical competency passport.

Shifs are based on a 24/7 shift rotation of long days and nights to meet the needs of the service.

Main duties of the job

  • Acts at all times in accordance with the NMC Code of Conduct.
  • Supervises the work of the nursing team, ensuring individual programmes of care are formulated accordingly to patient needs and current research/guidelines.
  • Undertakes the assessment of patients including risk assessments e.g Purpose T and falls assessments
  • Ensures planned nursing care is delivered safely and effectively taking into account the views of the patient and their relatives.
  •  Ensures plans of care are implemented and updated as appropriate.
    Advises on the promotion of health and prevention of illness.
  • Acts as link nurse to other specialties.
  • Participates in Audits relevant to the ward area.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse or student nurse awaiting confirmation
  • Committed to own professional development to enhance practice
Desirable criteria
  • Post registration Education eg Mentorship, Intravenous drug administration, Intravenous cannulation desirable but not essential.

EXPERIENCE

Desirable criteria
  • Post registration experience desirable but not essential
  • Previous surgical nursing experience

SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE

Essential criteria
  • The ability to communicate effectively with patients, relatives and the MDT verbally and non-verbal with clear concise documentation
  • Willingness to reflect and alter communication skills according to the patient/client group and situation
  • Be able to care for patients without prejudice related to gender, religion, disability
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to work under pressure on a busy acute ward with high acuity patients
  • Aware of the NMC code of conduct and the implications on care provided to client group, critically analysing situations to ensure patient safety and safe practice

SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES

Desirable criteria
  • Ability to travel to other sites when necessary
  • Flexible and able to work internal rotation, day and nights
