The Clinical Unit Manager is expected to provide senior clinical leadership and supervision to a specific clinical function / department. They will be expected to directly manage and be accountable for the allocated human and physical resources for that area, maintaining and working within the allocated financial budget. The post holder will have continuing responsibility for the overall safety and management of the unit, ensuring plans are in place to maintain the provision of the service and to provide quality care.
The Clinical Unit Manager will need to provide specialist clinical knowledge and expertise in their related field. They will lead the team to provide qualitative, productive, safe evidenced-based nursing care which promotes best practice and best outcomes for patients.

The role is one that is 20% clinical and 80% managerial. The post holder will work directly with their allocated staff and patients to provide a positive visible role model; influencing best practice from the clinical base; challenging, encouraging, coaching and mentoring appraisal needs of staff as they become apparent.
The Clinical Unit Manager will have authority on the patients and staffs working environment by having influence on cleanliness, medical equipment, infection control, health and safety, morale on the ward, food provision and hydration, dignity and respect for patients and staff.
The post holder will be required to monitor the workforce levels and skill mix ensuring that rosters are safe, provide efficiency and are proportionate to the dependency level of patients on his or her ward escalating any issues identified in a timely and effective manner.
The Clinical Unit Manager will act as a Designated Person for the decontamination unit located on the Urology Investigation Unit (UIU). They will be responsible for monitoring decontamination processes and ensuring that the unit is compliant with local and national guidelines. They will work closely with the decontamination Users and Operators to support service delivery and local practices. The unit manager is expected to address issues identified during inspections or audits and report them alongside the solutions quarterly to the Decontamination Group

- Teaching and Assessment recognised qualification
- Recognised advanced communication skills

- Trained user as specified in HTM 01-06
Experience

- Significant experience of working at senior nursing level
- Previous experience of team leadership and management
- Previous experience of working in the outpatient setting

- Good understanding of Infection Prevention Control and Decontamination standards

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Proven ability to analyse highly complex problems and to develop and successfully implement practical and workable solutions to address them
- Evidence of managing unit / department and providing leadership to nursing team
