Job overview

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated individual to take up a post  as a  deputy sister / deputy charge nurse. 

We are looking to recruit someone with strong management/ leadership experience who can directly deputise for the ward sister in her absence 

alongside running the ward and leading the team. 

Cardiology experience is an advantage but we will consider other candidates with strong leadership experience in acute areas.

The aim of the Coronary Care Unit is to provide holistic care for acute Cardiology patients, utilizing a coordinated multi-disciplinary approach, resulting in optimal patient outcomes. This includes the initiation of early intervention as appropriate. The unit provides central monitoring/ telemetry for primary PCI patients as well as all other acute cardiac conditions, and has the facilities for intra aortic balloon pacing as required

The candidate should be able to demonstrate a commitment to high standards of patient care as well as being able to demonstrate good organisational and leadership skills.

Main duties of the job

  • The post holder is the designated deputy to the person with continuing responsibility. 
  • Post holder is designated to regularly take charge of the ward and provide effective professional and managerial leadership to all staff in the absence of Sister.
  • Is expected to have a good working knowledge of the Cardiology system and nursing patients with a wide range of cardiology conditions.
  • Expected to carry out all relevant forms of care, maintaining a high standard of nursing care within the framework of Trust policies.
  • Will teach and supervise qualified and unqualified staff including basic and/or post basic students, back to nursing students and health care assistants.

Education & Qualification

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse (Level 1)
  • ENB 998 or equivalent
  • First Line Management Course
  • Evidence of further continued professional development which may include courses in: Cardiac Nursing Skills;
Desirable criteria
  • Diploma in Nursing
  • Coronary care course

Skills, Abilities & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Ability to work within a team and independently
  • Competency in IV drug administration. Infusion pump skills
  • Knowledge of up to date nursing and NHS issues
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to resolve conflict/dispute in a non-confrontational manner
  • Knowledge of evidence informed and research based practice

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience as a band 6/5 grade preferably in cardiology
  • Previous experience as shift/team leader
  • Experience of teaching, HCA’s Students and qualified staff
