Following the development of a state of the art children's emergency department and observation unit at Stoke Mandeville Hospital. We have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and passionate nursing associate to join our friendly team and work in first class facilities. Where the care and experience of our children & young people is paramount.
This post offers the opportunity to develop your clinical, A&E and leadership skills in a friendly, fast paced, dynamic environment.
You are a registered nursing associate with a professional approach to delivering high quality, patient focused care. Our Children’s Practice Development Nurse works as part of the nursing team to provide support for your orientation and ongoing professional development.

- To provide direct patient care to an allocated group of children or young people, including undertaking all required patient observations reporting any results outside of normal parameters to the nurse in charge or your named supervisor.
- Promote, monitor and maintain a healthy, safe and secure environment for children, young people patients, and their families
- Establish and maintain effective communication with children, young people and their families.
- To ensure that all patient care is documented, and that all relevant documentation is completed accurately and within agreed timescales in accordance with NMC standards for records and record keeping.
- Communicate with children and young people and their families about their care and what is expected to happen and answer any general enquires signposting them to facilities should this be required.
- To follow the treatment plan for children and young people and administer medication where appropriate and within scope of professional practice
- To maintain confidentiality about the child/young people’s admission and treatment at all times
- To be fully aware of the uses, safety precautions and handling of equipment in the department.

Experience

- Understanding of the scope of the role of the Nursing Associate in context of the team and organisation, and how the role may contribute to service development
- Understand and act in line with NMC professional standards for the practice contained within The Code
- Knowledge of when to seek advice and escalate to the appropriate care professional for expert help
- Understanding of the importance of following procedures and treatment plans
- Understand the requirements for NMC professional revalidation
Skills and Abilities
