Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the  Surgical Wards at Stoke Mandeville Hospital for an enthusiastic and motivated  individual to join our team as a Practice Development Nurse.  This post is ideal for an experienced Band 5  or a Band 6 Registered Nurse who has a strong interest in promoting a high standard of clinical skills and competency and has a passion for education and support of all health care professionals.

You will be supporting staff across all AFC bands, enabling them to achieve their potential and guiding them to deliver high quality, safe and effective care at all times.

 

Main duties of the job

Please see attached job description for full list of duties and responsibilities, these will include:-

  • Working closely and collaboratively with Ward Managers to identify areas for training, education and support within their individual areas and across the surgical wards
  • Supporting new members of staff to the surgical wards to complete their competencies and clinical skills necessary to help them deliver safe and effective care
  • Looking at audit results and then preparing ward based teaching sessions to support staff with learning that is relevant to their specific areas
  • Supporting areas clinically on occasions when necessary to ensure safety of patients and staff

Education, Qualifications & Training

Essential criteria
  • Registered Adult Nurse Level 1
  • ENB 998, MSPP, Educational / Teaching and Assessing Qualification
  • Degree in Nursing
  • Evidence of further continued professional developmen
Desirable criteria
  • Post Graduate Certificate in Education
  • Significant and relevant surgical nursing experience
  • Experience of undertaking clinical audits

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant and relevant experience at band 5 Nurse in surgery, Trauma, Orthopaedics, Acute, or Critical Care or relevant speciality
  • Experience of teaching students, HCA’s & RN’s
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience as shift/ team leader
  • Experience of undertaking clinical audi
  • Experience of participating in clinical research

Skills, Abilities & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Computer Literate
  • Good time management skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly with patients, relatives and MDT team in English.
  • Ability to write comprehensively and clearly in English.
  • Ability to work within a team and independently
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership skills and give examples from work experience
  • Ability to resolve conflict/dispute in a non-confrontational manner
  • Knowledge of up to date Nursing and NHS Issues
