Job overview

We are seeking a Learning Disability & Autism Liaison Clinician to join our established service at Southmead Hospital. We provide an innovative seven day service to support the Hospital to meet the needs of people who have a learning disability and autistic people .

The successful applicant will be patient about enabling access to acute services, have excellent understanding of the needs of autistic people & people with learning disabilities and be able to advice on reasonable adjustments to ensure equitable access to healthcare.

Communication skills working with service users with diverse needs, presenting training and communicating  with hospital staff, community care staff and carers is essential to be successful in this role.

Main duties of the job

Your primary purpose will be to the provision of the Learning Disability & Autism Liaison service in the Hospital. This includes providing high quality clinical practice to individuals including clear record keeping and case load management systems.

You will supervise students and potentially junior staff. You will also contribute to and coordinate a number of projects that may span the Hospital and other services within the Sirona Adult Health Learning Disability Service and with external partners to contribute to the achievement of service objectives. You will contribute towards the development of the wider Learning Disability & Autism liaison services across BNSSG by working collaboratively with colleagues to meet the objectives of the services. 

You will be responsible to the Lead Hospital Liaison Nurse (Sirona Adult Health Learning Disability Service) for the delivery of high quality, safe and cost-effective provision of the Learning Disability & Autism Liaison Services at the Hospital. As a clinician within the service you will also contribute to the Sirona Adult Learning Disability Health Service in line with organisational objectives.

Essential criteria
  • Registered Health Care Professional and current registration.
  • Educated to degree level or demonstrates willingness and ability to work towards this level
Desirable criteria
  • Post-graduate qualification in relevant professional area.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of achieving health outomes for people with a learning disability and / or autistic people in a healthcare role
  • Experience of providing and / or advising on reasonable adjustments for autistic people and / or people who have a learning disability
Desirable criteria
  • Clinical skills across a range of professional interventions.
  • Experience and knowledge of implementing change to improve services.
