 If you are an experienced lung cancer Specialist Nurse with the passion and drive to make a positive difference in patients’ lives, join our friendly and inclusive team of Lung Cancer Specialist Nurses. 

This would be an ideal opportunity for either a band 7 specialist nurse or an experienced band 6 looking to progress their career and enhance their specialist skills. 

Working as part of our multi-disciplinary team you will be pivotal in ensuring the delivery of specialist information, advice and support remains to a consistently high quality. Your excellent organisation and communication skills will be vital for undertaking nurse led clinics including a nurse led thoracic surgical follow up clinic, a model that is being adopted throughout lung cancer nursing teams in the South West.

Join a proactive and forward-thinking team that prides itself on its ability to deliver individualised compassionate care for patients and relatives and also for its own team.

The successful candidate should:

  • Hold NMC registration with substantial relevant post registration experience
  • Hold a relevant specialist qualification
  • Have knowledge and experience of working with lung cancer patients

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

  • To plan, develop, improve and promote the service ensuring the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective care
  • To act as an autonomous practitioner, independently planning, implementing and evaluating programmes of care.
  • To assess, develop and implement specialist nursing care programmes that deliver evidence based individualised and personalised care through holistic needs assessment, care planning and evaluation of care and care interventions
  • To provide patients and staff with highly developed specialist advice to manage complex symptoms
  • To work closely with community and network, other hospital and community staff to ensure an effective seamless service
  • To develop and utilize the skills needed to embed patient and public involvement within the sphere of specialist nursing practice
  • To transcribe radiology requests on ICE following successful completion of the IR(M)E training course
  • To work as patient advocate, to help negotiate the patient journey and ensure optimum care is provided to each patient
  • To nurture and maintain links with other health care agencies and organisations providing support and information to patients
  • To act as a positive role model for nurses in the hospital through the demonstration of excellent communication and clinical skills
  • To expertly deliver highly complex sensitive condition related information to patients and relatives
  • To provide professional leadership for band 6 specialist nurses and be a role model in relation to this specialist area.

  • To develop and share expertise within the multidisciplinary team
  • To develop and utilize the skills and expertise to act as a resource in the care of patients needs, ensuring an optimum level of service to patients and their carers
  • To deploy high level skills in order to provide effective communication systems of support for patients
  • To adhere to and promote in others the importance of infection control guidelines and procedures
  • To ensure that all patients and families are aware of all treatment options, including clinical trials
  • To lead on policy and service development within a multidisciplinary team context
  • To lead on the development and implementation of protocols for specialist area of work and for the wider healthcare community served by North Bristol Trust
