Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust provides integrated acute and community Healthcare in the West Midlands serving a population of 260,000 residents. Walsall Manor Hospital houses the full range of district general hospital services. The £170 million development was completed in 2010 and we are continually upgrading. Construction of the new integrated critical care unit was completed in 2018, extension of a Neonatal Unit and an approved plan to build a brand new, state of the art Emergency Department which commenced in 2021

MIDWIFE LED UNIT MANAGER
We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join the senior team at Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust as the alongside midwife led unit manager.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Maternity matrons, and the other senior management team members and clinical leads to continue to develop best practice on our new alongside MLU .
We are seeking applicants with Midwifery and community clinical experience and experience in management elements would be advantageous. The position requires potential applicants to have demonstrable experience as a midwife including some experience in a managerial role.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for the day to day management of the service promoting high standards of care, efficient and effective use of resources, achieving safe staffing levels, troubleshooting operational issues and ensuring targets and KPI’s are met within delivery suite.
You will provide Midwife leadership, ensuring high standards of care working in partnership with the multidisciplinary team supporting the successful implementation of the care programme approach.
You will contribute to and develop operational procedures and take an active role in the development of the service, deputising for the Matron when required.
The post holder is a senior clinical and managerial lead for the alongside MLU. The post holder will have hold joint responsibility with community services as a model of care . They will manage and take responsibility for governance and team working that delivers excellent patient care within a framework that promotes efficient, safe clinical care and good use of resources. The post holder will act as the deputy to the matron in her absence and participate in the senior midwifery management on-call rota. In
addition, the post holder will be expected to act in a manner that upholds the Trust’s values and that of the profession. Ensuring that the service delivered contributes to supporting the principles of clinical governance, with the woman and her family at the centre of everything we do.

Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is an integrated Trust and the only provider of NHS acute care in Walsall, serving a population of 286,700, providing inpatient and outpatient services at the Manor Hospital as well as a wide range of services in the community. Walsall Manor houses the full range of district general hospital services under one roof. The £170 million development was completed in 2010 and the continued upgrading of existing areas ensures the Trust now has a state-of-the-art Critical Care Unit, Neonatal Unit, Obstetric Theatre, and Integrated Assessment Unit facilities. Work is also well underway on its multi-million pound new Urgent and Emergency Care Centre which will house a new Emergency Department (including Children’s Emergency Department), co-located Paediatric Assessment Unit, Acute Medical Unit and Urgent Care Centre. This is scheduled for completion this year.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- • Registered Midwife with Current NMC Registration
- • Evidence of extensive intra partum experience in low risk setting
- • Leadership qualification or training
- • Basic neonatal and adult life support knowledge and skills, including successful completion of NLS Course
Experience
Essential criteria
- • Extensive knowledge and experience in all areas of maternity services developed through continuing professional knowledge and practice
- • Sound knowledge of safeguarding children, domestic abuse, substance misuse and women with special needs
- • Can demonstrate autonomous midwifery practice
- • Evidence of involvement in the development of policies, guidelines and clinical audit
- • Previous Knowledge/Experience of low risk midwifery care

- • Can demonstrate autonomous midwifery practice
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- • Effective communicator
- • Knowledge and ability to work within both normal and abnormal antenatal care, labour and postnatal care and to deal appropriately with emergencies in the absence of medica staff

- • Well-developed IT skills
- • Ability to supervise learners
