Walsall Manor Hospital houses the full range of district general hospital services. The £170 million development was completed in 2010 and we are continually upgrading. Construction of the new integrated critical care unit was completed in 2018, extension of a Neonatal Unit and an approved plan to build a brand new, state of the art Emergency Department which commenced in 2021

A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust due to the expansion in urgent & emergency care services at the Trust. As a result of a widening catchment area of patients attending Walsall Manor Emergency Department in recent years and following the opening of Midland Metropolitan University Hospital, Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust are seeking staff to continue to support the Trust’s journey to be a leading provider of care for our community.

Main duties of the job
This vacancy is to recruit to an Emergency Nurse / Care Practitioner in the Emergency Department to join our Medical Workforce.
We are seeking candidates with experience in the Emergency Department setting to provide assessment and treatment to patients within the See and Treat Stream of the Emergency Care Pathway.
Candidates will be required to hold registration status within either Nursing or as an Allied Healthcare Professional to join the team (at degree or equivalent level).
There is an expectation that as a Qualified ENP / ECP Band 7 joining the team you will already hold a minor injury and minor illness module (Level 6 or 7), with evidence of experience and competence within the role. There may be an opportunity to be appointed as a Band 6 with a transition to Band 7 for those that need to evidence the required competencies.
Funding will be committed to candidates to complete their Non-Medical Prescribing where it is not currently in situ.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
As part of the Clinical team within the Emergency Department, the Emergency Nurse / Care Practitioner (ENP / ACP) will act as an autonomous clinician diagnosing and treating a range of patients presenting with minor injuries across the age spectrum of adults and paediatrics.
The post holder may possess a limited scope of practice however the clinical team will support the practitioner to develop extended skills to include complex wound care, limb reductions, thoracic and pelvic injuries with the support of clinical competencies. The band 7 role would include minor illness and may on occasion be required to support the provision of care within this stream of patients.
To continue CPD and complete the non-medical prescribing modules with facilitated time away from the department.
The Band 7 practitioner will be able to close the patient journey by holding a Non-Medical prescribing certificate or Hold 2 out of the triad of Injury, Illness, Non-Medical Prescribing.
The post holder must be able to demonstrate 12 months Emergency Nurse/Care Practitioner experience within Emergency care.

Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse / AHP Emergency Practitioner minor injuries module (LEVEL 6 or 7) **and all of the following**
- Emergency Practitioner minor illness module (level 6 or 7)
- Non Medical prescribing v300 (level 6 or 7) evidence of undertaking recognised equivalent specialised course (or working towards)
- •Evidence of undertaking recognised course of study in teaching and assessing.
- Educated to degree level or evidence of study at degree level (or masters level)
Experience
Essential criteria
- Minimum of 1 years post qualification experience within the Emergency Department at band 5 level or above.
- Ability to work autonomously and safely within the clinical setting using skills of clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment and referral to other agencies
Knowledge and Skills
Essential criteria
- Additional clinical skills eg; x-ray interpretation/ assessment skills/ patient management. Wound assessment/ suturing/ wound management To include truncal and pelvic injuries / pain
- Sound knowledge of minor injuries / Illness assessment and management. Sound knowledge of Health promotion, accident prevention and patient education

- Skilled practitioner who can act as a role model. Demonstrates attention to detail Able to cope with unpredictable peaks in work load Flexible and supportive attitude to individuals. Flexible to work in other areas of the ED Enthusiastic team member/ able to work using own initiative.
