Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust provides integrated acute and community Healthcare in the West Midlands serving a population of 260,000 residents. Walsall Manor Hospital houses the full range of district general hospital services. The £170 million development was completed in 2010 and we are continually upgrading. Construction of the new integrated critical care unit was completed in 2018, extension of a Neonatal Unit and an approved plan to build a brand new, state of the art Emergency Department which commenced in 2021

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Sister to join our Community Children's Nursing team. The successful candidate will be a registered Paediatric nurse with community experience who will demonstrate excellent leadership skills. The post holder will have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate staff whilst working to deadlines.
It is an exciting time to join the paediatric team at Walsall due to the expansion and progression of the service. We are leading the way with digital innovation.
The paediatric department comprises of a 21-inpatient ward, a 12 bedded PAU, surgical work, a virtual ward, children community nursing team and outpatient’s department.

Main duties of the job
The purpose of the role is to provide exemplary leadership to the CCN team by providing

· Developing the team and service to ensure the needs of the population are met

Being visible to all areas within the paediatric and neonatal care group

Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is an integrated Trust and the only provider of NHS acute care in Walsall, serving a population of 284,300, providing inpatient and outpatient services at the Manor Hospital as well as a wide range of services in the community. Walsall Manor houses the full range of district general hospital services under one roof. The £170 million development was completed in 2010 and the continued upgrading of existing areas ensures the Trust now has a state-of-the-art Critical Care Unit, Neonatal Unit, Obstetric Theatre, and Integrated Assessment Unit facilities.
A new Urgent Emergency Care Centre was opened in March 2023. The two-storey development has significantly improved emergency care facilities and capacity and has provided almost 5,000 square metres of additional clinical space.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder will have continued responsibility for managing and monitoring the community
children’s nursing (CCN) service.
To function as an expert clinical practitioner within the CCN team. To deliver direct patient care whilst
managing, leading, co-ordinating and overseeing nursing practice.
The post holder carries continuing responsibility for the co-ordination and monitoring of all clinical
activities within the CCN team.
To ensure that there is efficient and effective utilisation of all resources required to deliver optimum
quality care to children, young people and their families who access the CCN service.
The post holder will deputise for the Paediatric matron, driving forward evidence-based practice
and taking responsibility for the supervision of staff and the policies and practices that operate within the
paediatric department.
The post holder will provide cover for peers within the Care Group in their absence and partake in the
Senior paediatric nurses on-call rota.

- RSCN / RN Child
- Recognised leadership training
Desirable criteria
- Masters degree or working towards or has equivalent experience
Knowledge and Experience

- Substantial experience of working with children and young people in the community setting.
- Demonstrate leadership and team player ability within current practice
- Previous experience of leading and managing teams.
Skills and Aptitudes
Essential criteria
- Decision making skills that support clinical practise and service delivery
