Band 5 - Staff Nurse - 27.5 hours
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic experienced member of staff to join the Trauma & Orthopaedics outpatients team, working between both Russells Hall Hospital and Corbett’s Hospital. The service runs Monday- Friday (08:30-18:00) with additional weekend and evening clinics running occasionally.
This is a great opportunity to gain knowledge or build on your current knowledge and experience in Orthopaedics. You will be working in both elective orthopaedic, trauma orthopaedic as well as virtual fracture clinics.
Main duties of the job
1. Acts as point of contact for personal, written and telephone enquiries from patients, relatives, Consultants, General Practitioners and other Health Service staff, assessing the validity and priority of that contact, taking action where necessary.
2. Ensure patients reviewed in Virtual Fracture Clinics receive timely and reviews and receive a high standards of communication in all formats including verbal written and electronic.
3. Participate in induction and training programmes and act as preceptor/ mentor to junior staff, student nurses and Clinical support workers supporting their needs.
4. To have detailed knowledge of specialist equipment and specialist information on the procedures undertaken within the specialty team by all grades of staff
5. Responsibilities for ensuring patients receive high standards of care from all staff and escalate concerns through correct channels of communication.

Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse
- Teaching/Mentoring qualification
Desirable criteria
- Degree Level Study
- Recognised Management and/or leadership course
Skills & Experience
Essential criteria
- Ability to undertake clinical skills within this speciality and or be willing to undertake required training
- Able to identify appropriate skill mix to ensure correct support for trauma and orthopaedic clinics across an organisation
- Demonstrate ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines
- Knowledge of Health and Safety in the workplace
- Working knowledge of NICE guidelines and impact on services
Desirable criteria
- Experience working in Virtual Fracture clinic
- Be clinically competent in the performance of relevant clinical task such as Venepuncture, ECG or be willing to undertake training to acquire the skill
- Demonstrate experience in basic casting techniques and/or be willing to complete recognised plaster casting qualification

Applicant requirements
You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
The postholder will have regular contact with vulnerable people and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
