Job overview
The Maternity unit are looking for a driven, motivated and cheerful individual to join our ward clerk team on a permanent basis. We are looking for an individual with experience of administration tasks, experience of working as a ward clerk as well as flexibility to cover a 24/7 service.
The ward clerk team is a small, close knit team of individuals that support the daily running of the maternity unit. The team is friendly and flexible and strive to provide the best experience for the families in our care.
Main duties of the job
Inputting information onto computer systems following the birth of a baby, and all administrative duties linked to this process.
Tracking notes and care plans.
Making appointments for patients.
Ensuring that all discharges are communicated out to either community midwives within the trust, or that of neighbouring maternity units.
Answering the telephone and dealing with queries.

Essential criteria
- GCSE English and Mathematics Grade C or abover (or equivalent)
- Computer literate
- Typing skills
Skills and experience
Essential criteria
- Excellent communication skills
- Confident telephone manner
Desirable criteria
- 6 Months administration and clerical experience
- Previous experience in a similar role
Personal qualities
Essential criteria
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Ability to relate to general public in calm and professional manner
- Confident manner
Applicant requirements
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
