Job overview

Due to the extension of our department, an exciting opportunity has arisen within the Endoscopy Unit, and we are looking for six highly motivated, enthusiastic and dedicated individuals who are passionate about delivering excellent patient care to join our team.

Your role is a vital part of the diagnostic and therapeutic treatments offered to patients with a variety of gastrointestinal pathologies. We also perform bronchoscopies in our unit, and support theatres and other departments with endoscopic procedures. Our decontamination unit is also housed within our department, ensuring the Endoscopy Unit is able to provide a seamless Endoscopy service for our patients .

The unit is currently open Monday to Friday for routine investigations and there is also the need to provide on call out of hours services. Prospective candidates will be expected to work flexibly as the unit can be open outside of the normal working schedule. Prospective candidates without endoscopy experience can expect on the job specialist and technical training and competency based assessment and registration with the Endoscopy Skills database.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development and implementation and evaluation of programmes of care without supervision. They will be required to actively participate in the teaching and supervision of other nursing and non-nursing staff. The post holder will also be required to take a lead / link role for the nursing unit/department to be determined on
appointment/appraisal.

  • First Level Registered Nurse
  • Nursing degree

Knowledge & Training

Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of undertaking a recognised course of study in teaching and assessing, or commitment to complete
  • Evidence of professional development

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working in an acute hospital setting
  • Substantial post registration experience
  • Completion of preceptorship/support skills
  • Intravenous drug administration skills
Desirable criteria
  • Computer Literate
  • Venepuncture/ cannulation skills
