Job overview
The A+E Department of the Birmingham and Midland Eye Centre (BMEC) has a full time vacancy for a Staff Nurse. We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual who would like to work in this busy and fast paced environment. A keen interest in ophthalmology is essential, previous experience is not essential as training will be provided. Shift patterns include a combination of Early and Late 5 days a week or Long Days 3 days a week, but no Night Shifts.
Main duties of the job
- Clear documentation of patients' current and past ophthalmic history and other assessment information
- Obtain visual acuity on adults and children using various vision testing charts
- Administration of medication (oral, intramuscular, subcutaneous, intravenous, subconjunctival and topical)
- Eye irrigation
- Vital signs, blood glucose monitoring and measurement of intraocular pressures
- Application of eye pad and cartella (eye shield)
- Support senior staff/colleagues, clinicians and other members of the multidisciplinary team
- Manage a cohort of patient in the Urgent Care Clinics
- Participate in internal meetings and contribute to the improvement of the department and service as a whole
