An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Outpatient team at Birmingham Children's Hospital. The Outpatient Department is split across 3 sites within the Children's Hospital site and offers outpatient clinics for a wide range of specialties. It is a busy and varied environment that requires a well organised, compassionate and enthusiastic individual to work as part of our team.
This is a Junior sister (Band 6) role, and is for part time hours. The successful candidate will be expected to work clinically within the department and lead the team to meet the needs of the patients and their families. Due to the busy nature of the department you will need excellent organisation and decision making skills, along with clear and effective communication skills. Due to the number of specialities that use the department, excellent coordination and communication with a variety of Multi Disciplinary Teams is needed.
As the Junior Sister you will be expected to deputise for the Ward manager and support them with management and leadership of the team and department. This includes the onsite Phlebotomy service, supporting with delivery of this service and ensuring competency and professionalism of staff.

- RSCN/RN Child Branch
- Current NMC registration
- Teaching/assessing qualification

- A Degree in Nursing
- Certificate in management/approved management training/equivalent management experience
- Clinical leadership Course e.g. ILM
- Post basic qualification in child protection
- Recognised high dependency qualification/equivalent experience
Knowledge & Nature of Experience

- Evidence of on-going and current professional development
- Knowledge of and ability to work within the Trust and wider NHS policies
- Knowledge of the Trusts safeguarding policies and procedures and the ability to raise concerns appropriately
- Experience of managing staff and dealing with difficult situations

- Extensive knowledge at Band 6 or above in the wards/departments specialty
- Evidence of leadership roles
- Understanding of clinical governance and risk assessment
- Experience of implementing a change in practice
- Evidence of audit or research projects
- Experience in budgetary management and control, or the willingness to acquire
