We are delighted to offer the opportunity to develop a new role for an experienced and enthusiastic Speech and Language Therapist looking to specialise in the management of clients with Parkinson’s Disease (PD) in the community setting. This postholder would oversee our ‘PD Plus’ caseload by
-
developing client pathways
-
Ensuring the team is providing evidence-based practice
-
coordinating 1:1 therapy blocks of Lee Silverman Voice Technique (LSVT) (training can be provided) and other evidence-based therapies e.g IQoro and working towards using EMST.

delivering, evaluating and improving our already established course for groups of clients with PD and their families alongside another member of the SLT team

leading on benchmarking our service using the PD UK audit

developing links with other professionals by participating in regular PD+ MDT clinics and PD MDT meetings
Together with your specialism in PD, you would provide person-centred specialist assessment, differential diagnosis and management for a varied caseload of adult clients with dysphagia and communication difficulties stemming from disorders such as Motor Neurone Disease, Dementia, brain tumours, stroke, Traumatic Brain Injury and respiratory conditions. There would also be the opportunity of providing clinical supervision to other SLTs within the team.
Main duties of the job

You will be part of a supportive team responsible for providing specialist assessment, differential diagnosis and treatment of swallowing and communication difficulties in the community setting.

You will be responsible for overseeing the PD service, developing evidence-based pathways and treatment options

You will participate in service development and be an effective member of the SLT team

You will provide clinical supervision to other members of our SLT team and students

You will design and deliver training to other members of the MDT as required

You will be supervised by a senior SLT, but an ability to work autonomously will be integral to the role

Person specification
Education/Qualifications/Training
Essential criteria
- Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent
- Licence to Practice
- Registered with HCPC
- Dysphagia post graduate training
Desirable criteria
- Registered Member of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapist
Continuous Professional Development
Essential criteria
- Evidence of successful post-graduate study through CPD portfolio
- NQT Competencies
- Dysphagia competencies
Previous Experience
Desirable criteria
- At least 2 years post graduate experience
- Relevant specialist experience post qualification
Additional Requirements
Essential criteria
- Ability to travel to multiple sites – must be a car driver with access to own vehicle.
