Band 5 Staff Nurse (Pre-Operative Assessment)

**Full Time & Part Time Available**

An exciting and challenging opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated professional to join our pre-operative assessment team.

Working alongside our experienced nurses and anaesthetists you will be a key team member supporting the trust's elective recovery and a pivotal driving force in optimising patients before their surgical procedures.

As a band 5 staff nurse, we will support you to gain an exemplary level of expertise in the pre-operative specialty managing a case load of patients within General Surgery, to include Breast care and Angiography, Urology, Trauma and Orthopaedics and Gynaecology.

Our commitment to both you and our patients is on a first class level with development opportunities that will support your surgical expertise and fulfil the requirements of NMC revalidation.

This includes: a comprehensive induction programme, an established competency portfolio, an in-house training schedule supported by anaesthetics and support to undertake any identified adjacent university modules.

We are looking for a nurse who understands the impact that a good experience within our department can have on a patient’s health journey and is keen to ensure this is delivered to every patient using the service.

A nurse keen to develop their assessment skills, has excellent communication and interpersonal skills and motivated to develop skills and training appropriate to the role would be an ideal candidate for this post.

The post-holder is responsible for undertaking and recording a  comprehensive nursing assessment without supervision and is accountable for the information obtained and subsequent care delivery. Is able to process information obtained, clear patients for surgery or make any ongoing referrals and follow up results according to an established and comprehensive set of guidelines and criteria.

Teach and supervise more junior staff, students and the non-registered nursing workforce.

Be accountable for care or any omissions of care that you delegate to others.

Act as role model, delivering care with empathy and compassion as part of a multidisciplinary team.
