Band 6/7 Breast Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist (dependent on experience)

This is a part-time post for 30 hours (4 working days a week).

The Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust is excited to announce that we have a new opportunity for a Clinical Nurse Specialist within the Berkshire Cancer Centre.

We are looking for a dynamic, well-motivated and compassionate nurse with experience in cancer care, chemotherapy or breast surgery to join the Breast Cancer CNS team.

The role offers opportunities to develop your skills to become an autonomous and independent practitioner in an interesting and fast moving field of oncology.

This is an exciting time to join the team whilst we increase our nurse-led working to enhance the care for people with breast cancer.

The post holder will be part of the breast cancer specialist nursing team, working alongside surgeons, oncologists and wider multidisciplinary team supporting patients diagnosed with breast cancer. 

You will be able to undertake further professional development to support you in your future career progression.

Breast Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialists support people diagnosed with breast cancer by providing expert advice, psycho-social support and information on their disease, investigations, treatment and follow-up care.

The Breast Cancer CNS team work together, and with the multidisciplinary team to help deliver an expert specialist service to those diagnosed with breast cancer.

The Breast Cancer CNS team help to care for patients at all stages of their cancer journey and through a variety of treatments in a kind, compassionate manner. The team are committed to the development and delivery of high quality holistic patient care. They play an active part in clinical practice, management of patient caseload, education, research, audit and professional activities relating to breast cancer care.

The team cares for people diagnosed with primary and secondary/metastatic breast cancer.  The main focus of this post is the care of people with primary breast cancer but occasionally the post holder may be required to offer support to patients with metastatic cancer if the metastatic breast cancer CNS is unavailable.

Responsibilities of the role are:

Working as an expert in clinical field to deliver specialist clinical services to patients with breast cancer.

Providing  holistic needs assessment and individualised compassionate care.

Responsible for the delivery of patient-focused programmes of care, which address the complex and changing health and well-being needs of this patient group.

Working with other professional groups in secondary and primary care.

Providing specialist, interdisciplinary education and training to other staff and students.

Clinically manages and engineers the cancer pathway for patients with a diagnosis of breast cancer.

Works strategically to influence and drive the development of the service both locally and nationally.

Participation in/leading clinical audit in own area.

Participates in and facilitates/undertakes research in specialist field.

Qualifications

  • Educated to a minimum of 1st degree level or able to demonstrate equivalent experience
  • Qualification in specialist area of breast cancer nursing and/or oncology
  • Evidence of continued professional development

  • Post-basic qualification in cancer/palliative care/relevant subject
  • Recognised teaching qualification

Experience
