An exciting opportunity for four staff members to train to become Personal Safety Tutors and Violence Reduction Advisors for the Trust working closely with the Head of Risk and Head of Clinical Education & Workforce to deliver face to face conflict resolution and breakaway technique training for staff in the Trust.

We are looking for individuals who have experience of working with individuals with challenging behaviours and utilising techniques to diffuse and manage complex situations and who have experience of teaching or mentoring others in the workplace.  Applicants must hold a Personal Safety / PMVA tutor certification or be willing to undertake this and have the support of their current line manager who must be willing to release them from their substantive post on pre-agreed dates for the delivery of training sessions. Successful applicants will have access to supervision / mentoring from within the Trust and also Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust who will deliver the Personal safety/ PMVW tutor certification training.

This is a new model of delivery and so we are looking for innovative and enthusiastic staff with excellent communication skills and the ability to help shape and develop this team of trainers. A fantastic opportunity for staff who are interested in gaining experience of formal teaching and supporting the violence reduction agenda across the organisation.

- Undergo GSA training 

- Deliver face to face conflict resolution training

- Work with security, risk and education leads to ensure training provision is robust and meets the needs of the organisation.

- Act as a visible and credible member of the team promoting attendance at conflict resolution training and promoting best practice across the organisation.

The Personal Safety Tutor and Violence Reduction Advisor is an integral role supporting the delivery of education relating to conflict resolution and violence reduction for staff working within the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust (RBFT).

 

They will assist the Head of Risk to ensure the effective delivery of all physical intervention training and its theory components Trust wide. They will support the agenda in designing, implementing and evaluating physical intervention training programmes which meets the needs of the Trust and its staff and which are reflective of both physical and mental health needs of our patients.

With expertise in the field of Prevention & Management of Violence and Aggression (PMVA), the post holder will assist the Head of Risk in representing the Trust in promoting the therapeutic management of violence and aggression in where appropriate and upholding and promoting the positive ethos of the Trust and the General Services Association (GSA) in this field. The post holder will be expected to support the development of practice-based knowledge and skills in this specialist area and contribute to research and audit where required.

The Personal Safety Tutor will be a visible, accessible individual who can provide knowledge and expertise in clinical practice when affording care to those people that exhibit potential or actual aggressive behaviour.

  • Formal teaching qualification e.g. PG Cert Healthcare Education
  • Educated to degree level or have equivalent experience

Experience

  • Evidence of using de-escalation techniques in previous roles
  • At least 2 years’ experience of working within an acute clinical setting.
  • Experience of teaching / mentoring others within the workplace.
