Band 3 Senior Healthcare Assistant (General Surgical Unit)

We are looking to recruit a highly motivated Senior Healthcare Assistant with recent Hospital experience in the Surgical division.

The Emergency Surgical Unit delivers a high standard of care to emergency surgical patients with a mix of complex care needs.

You should be:

• passionate about delivering high quality patient care;
• motivated and forward thinking;
• eager to develop your own clinical skills, and
• looking for a position which will challenge and stretch you.

You must have significant experience in Surgery and working with the Surgical Assessment Unit and be competent in cannulation and venepuncture.

Main duties of the job

You will need to be hard working, with a compassionate and caring personality, enjoy working with people and want to make a difference to our patients' journeys with us.

We offer a wide range of clinical development. We are keen to provide all our staff with the opportunity to learn, which means some of our courses are provided via online learning through our own dedicated Trust site, so staff can develop knowledge as and when they want or need.

You must have obtained an NVQ Level 2 certificate in Health & Social Care in order to apply for this position.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

You will provide high quality fundamental care to patients under the supervision a Registered Practitioner in a caring, compassionate and sensitive manner:

  • Acting always in the patient’s best interests.
  • Protecting and maintaining the patient’s privacy and dignity at all times.
  • Providing individualised care for a diverse group of patients respecting personal beliefs and preferences.
  • Alert the Registered Practitioner and/or Ward/ Department Manager to any change or concern relating to the welfare of the patient in a timely manner.

You will be actively involved in providing supervision and guidance to junior / less-experienced staff.

Education / Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Successful completion of Trust’s Band 2 Developmental Passport or ability to demonstrate equivalent level of competence.
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ / QCF level 3 in Health or Health and Social Care.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience as Healthcare Assistant in Surgery and working with the Surgical Assessment Unit.
Desirable criteria
  • Competent in cannulation and venepuncture.
  • Signed off for theatre escorting.
