Band 6 Senior Staff Nurse (General Surgical Unit and Surgical Assessment Unit)
Within the General Surgical Unit (GSU) we are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and experienced Senior Staff Nurse with a passion to provide excellent evidenced-based care.
The General Surgical Unit was the first ward within the trust to achieve the award of ward accreditation, which is a standard for consistently providing excellent an excellent standard of patient care and staff support.
The unit has 40-6 beds and cares for emergency General Surgical and now planned elective care. We also now have an enhanced care unit consisting of 4 beds for more complex surgical patients.
The Surgical Assessment Unit (SAU) is also part of GSU and provides emergency access for patients to the general surgical MDT team.
The unit takes referrals from GP surgeries, the ED department, outpatient clinics and direct from post-discharge patients.
We will provide you with a skill-based rotation between GSU and Surgical Assessment.
We also encourage personal and professional development, with opportunities to progress within the trust.
We offer a wide range of in-house development as well as supporting external education opportunities.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for a Registered Nurse with vast surgical experience. Your leadership will contribute to a team mission to deliver person-centred care with kindness and respect, in line with our hospital values.
Your development within the new role will be supported by a dedicated mentor and team leader who will ensure you have the support and guidance you require.
An integral part of the role will be to implement change and patient improvement within the ward environment.
This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your leadership skills and build on your already excellent knowledge and skills base.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To work as a skilled practitioner and be responsible for the delivery of patient-focused programmes of care, which address the complex and changing health and well-being needs of the client group in their clinical area.
To ensure the smooth running of the ward / department in the absence of the Ward Sister/ Charge Nurse, and provide clinical and managerial leadership to nursing and support staff.
