Band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist in Nutrition

An exciting opportunity has been created for a band 7 nurse to join the nutritional support team involved in the care of patients requiring intravenous nutrition both whilst in hospital and at home.

This is an established team with a great track record of providing quality care.

Whilst experience in this field would be an advantage, this position could also be a developmental role which will include support for skills development which may include drug prescribing (consequently initial banding may reflect this).

This is a full-time post that will cover clinics in the Royal Berkshire Hospital, ward rounds and telephone support to patients and liaising with hospital and community multidisciplinary teams.

You will be working with a diverse patient group which will require a flexible approach to work.

You will need to bring motivation and commitment to this role and you will receive the opportunity to develop a specialised career pathway in a leading clinical service.

Main duties of the job

  • Assessing patient's requiring nutrition support.
  • Participate with ward rounds Monday to Friday.
  • Preparing and assisting Clinical Lead with reviewing home patients for clinic.
  • Assist with the monitoring of our home patients and liaising with the home care companies as required.
  • Assist the ward with any required training.
  • Preparing patients for discharge.
  • Assessing patient via referrals from other hospitals.
  • Liaising with wider MDT.
  • Managing our patient database and ensuring our data is kept up-to-date.
  • Participate with patient audits.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Works across acute Trust providing an autonomous nutrition support service, as an expert in clinical field to deliver specialist clinical services to defined patient/ client group.
  • Provides specialist, interdisciplinary education, training and advice (formal and informal) to patients, staff and students.
  • Works strategically to influences the development of the service both locally and nationally.
  • Leads clinical audits in own area.
  • Participates in /facilitates/ undertakes research in specialist field.
  • Leads and innovates nursing practice within nutrition support both within the Trust and through local networks.

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse
  • Evidence of recent clinical practice in specialist area/ evidence of recent appropriate experience.

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years post registration experience

  • Mentorship experience managing junior nurses
  • Experience working with patients with complex nutritional needs, i.e. enteral and/or parenteral
