Job overview

An exciting opportunity exists to join the Breast Team as Band 6 - Support Nurse. We are seeking an enthusiastic, forward thinking and motivated nurse to join this busy service. The nurse will have the opportunity to gain experience and knowledge of Breast cancer management in secondary care and develop key CNS skills in an environment supported by an experienced nursing team.

You will work across the Trust and be supported by a team of CNSs to deliver an exceptional standard of nursing care throughout the cancer patient pathway. You will develop skills enabling you to practice at an advanced clinical level, both in your own clinical practice and as a role model to others as a Breast cancer Key Worker.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will be expected to work closely with the Breast Care Clinical Nurse Specialists, the Breast Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT), and the Acute Oncology team, in order to implement National Guidance, and ensure patients receive the best care.

To be part of an established, integrated cancer and palliative care service that influences care by specialist practice, encompassing advanced clinical practice, education, and evidence based learning.

Aim of the role

To work accordingly to the Nursing And Midwifery Code of Professional Conduct and relevant professional guidelines and as a named nurse for a defined group of patients and take responsibility for:

    • Providing positive clinical leadership, working collaboratively with the senior nurse team to promote high standards of care specialist nursing care and This will involve dealing with complex situations and having to take appropriate action in a variety of settings. Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • Current Registered Nurse with the NMC • Degree in Nurse related specialty or working towards • Mentorship or teaching qualification • Able to evidence recent and continuing professional development relevant to the department
Desirable criteria
  • • Experience of managing a team and staff performance

Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Post registration experience of working in an acute hospital setting • Experience of managing challenging situations to a positive outcome • Evidence of teaching others • Has participated in clinical governance, research and audit • Experience of conducting appraisals and mentoring others
Desirable criteria
  • • Experience of managing staff capability, conduct and sickness absence at the early stages

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • • Demonstrates awareness of current changes in the NHS – in particular related to Nursing • Demonstrates success support of a ward/department manager
Desirable criteria
  • • Counselling or coaching skills
