We are a partnership of 10 north central London NHS trusts whose purpose is to deliver high quality and better value shared NHS corporate services at scale.

Launched on 1 December 2021 with transactional recruitment services, our experienced and knowledgeable team help staff across our network to access the information, systems and processes they need quickly and seamlessly, allowing staff to focus on the frontline and enabling the best use of NHS resources.

The NLPSS board is made up of executive-level representatives from each trust in the partnership who agree on an annual business plan which is executed by the managing director. Within this structure, individual services are accountable to the managing director, who reports to the board.

NLPSS is hosted by The Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust, acting as the legal entity, contracting authority and main employer of staff.

We are now recruiting talented, passionate, and committed individuals for our Student Nursing Associate programme in North Central London, delivered as a full-time workplace-based apprenticeship with a level 5 Foundation Degree at Middlesex University, starting in April 2025. 

This is a developmental role. The students will work towards progression into the post of Nursing Associate through successful completion of the programme, which combines and integrates both academic and work-based learning. They will develop and maintain knowledge, skills and competencies related to the role of Nursing Associate by being based, as an employee, in

a particular organisation, in a specific setting, but will experience working in alternative settings through a series of placements, to gain a wide appreciation of many health and care contexts.

Main duties of the job

What does the training programme involve?

  • Two-year full-time apprenticeship combined with a Foundation Degree includes approx. 2,300 programme hours divided to achieve an equal balance of theory and practice learning
  • This is a chance to earn and learn WITHOUT building a tuition fee debt

As a Student Nursing Associate, you will*: 

  • Provide personal care to patients of all genders
  • Develop understanding of all elements of the nursing process and be able to assist the registered nurse (or other registered care professional dependent on setting)in the ongoing assessment, planning, management and evaluation of care
  • Perform and record clinical observations including blood pressure, temperature, and pulse
  • Undertake clinical tasks like venepuncture and wound dressings
  • Ensure the privacy, dignity and safety of individuals is maintained at all times
  • Recognise issues relating to safeguarding vulnerable children and adults
  • Assist with the implementation and monitoring of clinical standards and outcomes

Your standard working week can include a mix of shifts, such as nights, early starts, evenings and weekends.

At the end of the programme, you will be equipped with the knowledge, understanding, skills, attitudes, and behaviours relevant to employment as a Nursing Associate and will work to a nationally recognised code of conduct.

The North Central London Nursing Associate programme is run by a group of highly performing primary and secondary health care providers based in the boroughs of Barnet, Enfield, Haringey, Camden, or Islington, and delivered in partnership with Middlesex University.

Entry requirements

ü  Confirm you will be over 18 years old at the start of the programme

ü  Provide evidence of Maths and English GCSEs (grade 9 to 4, grade A to C) or Functional Skills Level 2. NB. You will need to submit copies of your certificates via this link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/SNAApril25 before applications close (02/12/24)

ü  Commit to the apprenticeship requirements, including the 20% off the job
training required

ü  Pass a DBS check

ü  If applying to work in General Practice:

o   Must have previous healthcare experience.

o   Many vacancies in General Practice are offered at Primary Care Network level, it is essential that you have a flexible approach as your role may require rotating between two or more practices.

Right To Work

ü  Prove that you currently live and have lived in the UK for 3 years (i.e. since April 2022) or more with the right to work and study in England with no restriction. This must cover the duration of the programme.

Apprenticeship levy funding eligibility

ü  Visas must be valid for the full length of the Apprenticeship from the start (April 2025- April 2027)

ü  Not be on another Department for Education funded training programme or completed the same Apprenticeship programme at any Higher Education Institute

Education and qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of Maths and English GCSEs (grade 9 to 4, grade A to C) or Functional Skills Level 2
Desirable criteria
  • Level 3 in Care or equivalent in terms of both academic attainment and previous care experience.
  • Demonstrable ability to study at Level 5 Diploma of Higher Education Level and commit to completing the trainee Nursing Associate programme.

Skills and abilities

Essential criteria
  • Intermediate IT skills.
  • Understanding of the scope of the role of the Nursing Associate in context of the team and the organisation, and how the role may contribute to service development.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Ability to take part in reflective practice and clinical supervision activities.
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience of working within a health / care setting.
