Job overview

The Lifetime Service is a community nursing and psychology service for children and young people with non-malignant, life limiting and life threatening conditions.

The service is based in Kingswood and currently provides a service across 3 ICB areas, supporting children aged 0-18 and their families in, Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset (BNSSG) In addition the service has a Continuing Care Team (CCT) which supports children at home with complex health needs and children who are technology dependent.

The purpose of this role is to provide essential nursing care, at home or in other community settings, to children and their families who are under the care of the Lifetime service. 

This role will include management of a clinical caseload (approximately 30-35 families) primarily but may also include line management of a Band 5 Community Children’s Nurse. 

Sirona care & health currently recruit overseas nursing and therapy staff through an NHS Trust Supplier and we adhere to the NHSE Code of Practice in relation to applicants from Red List countries. Main duties of the job

        Be continuously responsible for the effective management of a caseload, delivering holistic nursing care to enable children with life-limiting conditions and complex nursing needs to be cared for in the environment of their choice.

Deliver clinical training to parents, carers, Lifetime support workers and others to enable children to be cared for in a variety of settings.

Ensure that care is delivered to agreed standards and within the policy framework of Sirona Care and Health and NMC guidelines.

Promote a family centred approach to care; demonstrating the 6 C’s explicit in the NMC code of conduct and work in partnership with the family and other professionals towards empowering the child and family to take responsibility for their healthcare needs.

Provide specialist clinical advice, consultation, interventions, training and support to staff within the multi-agency teams in relation to palliative care and technology dependent children.

Contribute to the evaluation of service provision and the ongoing improvement and development of the Lifetime Service.

Qualification and Training

Essential criteria
  • RSCN/RN Child registered on part 8 or 15 NMC register experience
Desirable criteria
  • Community Children's Nursing Experience

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria
  • Excellent communication skills and an ability to work in multi-disciplinary environments
  • Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) in areas relevant to Community
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in paediatric palliative care and complex health care
  • Intravenous / Central Access Device Clinical Skills
