The salary scale above has been agreed as part of the NHS Agenda for Change pay award for 2024/2025 and will be implemented in November 2024 backdated to 1st April 2024 where applicable.

An opportunity has arisen for a Band 3 Health Care Assistant on a fixed contract to join the nursing team on the Children’s Unit.
The Children's Unit consists of 19 inpatient beds including 1 High Dependency bed, 3 Enhanced Care beds.
We also have 6 Assessment unit beds, 6 medical/surgical day case beds and 2 Oncology beds.

Main duties of the job
To undertake assigned tasks involving direct and indirect care to the child, young person and their family in support of and supervised by a registered nurse.
To supervise and care for children and young people admitted to the children’s ward under the joint care of the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services team
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- NVQ level 3 in health care which includes specific modules related to nursing care activities outlined within job description eg baseline observation, blood sugar measurement; or equivalent qualification
- Literary skills demonstrated by correct completion of application form and evidence of educational or personal achievements
Desirable criteria
- NNEB or equivalent. Other relevant qualification, evidence of study
- Evidenced further study in relation to children and young people’s mental health
Experience
Essential criteria
- Ability to work in a team.
- Recent experience of nursing in an health care setting
Desirable criteria
- Experience of nursing / care provision in other care settings
- Recent experience of working on Children’s ward
- Experience working within CAMHS team
- Experience of working both day and night duty
Skills
Essential criteria
- Good communication skills both verbal and written
- Ability to take direction from a team leader . Organisational skills
- Ability to relate to children, staff, parents and visitors
- Competent in a range of nursing activities such as baseline observation measurement
- Ability to inform team leader of issues relating to health and safety, risk, other problems arising
Desirable criteria
- Able to work well in busy acute hospital ward environment
- IT skills. Willingness to achieve competency in a variety of identified nursing care activities in relation to post and personal ability
- Ability to impart knowledge and experience to others as appropriate
- Welsh Speaking
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Awareness of confidentiality
- Aware of own limitations within this extended role
- Understanding of healthcare services and clinical governance
- Awareness of issues relating to children and young people’s mental health
Desirable criteria
- Understanding of and commitment to family centered care and parental participation in care
