Background
Every three minutes someone in the UK develops dementia: a progressive and complex condition that can be devastating for the whole family. One in two of us will be affected by dementia in our lifetime – either by caring for someone with the condition, developing it ourselves, or both.
Dementia UK is the specialist dementia nursing charity that is there for the whole family. Our specialist nurses, known as Admiral Nurses, provide free, expert advice, support and understanding to help families care for their loved one. Every day, Admiral Nurses help families up and down the country to have the best life possible, for as long as possible.
About the role
Dementia UK is seeking a Consultant Admiral Nurse to provide expert clinical advice and support to the LGBTQ+ community facing challenges related to dementia.
In this role, you will ensure that the needs of LGBTQ+ people affected by dementia are represented in national policy, research, and clinical guidance. You will provide strategic, professional and clinical leadership in Admiral Nursing, contributing to and influencing educational programmes. Developing resources to raise awareness, foster new partnerships, and advocate best practice in supporting the LGBTQ+ community will be a key part of your work.
You will offer clinical advice and support through telephone, online, and clinic-based services, dedicating at least 25% of your time to providing specialist guidance to improve the wellbeing of LGBTQ+ individuals who may need advice or support with understanding and coping with a dementia diagnosis in their family.
Working closely with healthcare and social care partners, you will offer specialist advice to other Admiral Nurses and professionals across the sector, while disseminating high-quality education and research. Your leadership skills will be essential in motivating staff at all levels, as well as in shaping and leading on policy to better support LGBTQ+ people living with the effects of dementia.
To succeed in this role, you must be a Registered Nurse educated to, or working towards, a Master’s degree in a health and social care subject or possess equivalent qualifications or experience. A strong background in supporting the LGBTQ+ community affected by dementia, along with an expert understanding of its impact, will be essential. You will need to demonstrate a high level of personal and professional autonomy, exercising sound judgement and decision-making skills to meet the demands of the role.
Join us today and be part of a team committed to making a real difference in the lives of those affected by dementia.
We would love to hear from you! If you would like to find out more about the role, or have any queries, please get in touch with [email protected] and we can arrange a call with the hiring team.
