Job overview
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced cellular and transplant nurse to join the cellular therapy coordination team as the senior coordinator. Any potential applicants should have relevant knowledge and skills. The Haematology Oncology service at the Christie offers state of the art treatments delivered by leading clinicians to patients with blood cancers and across the Manchester Region and beyond. The post holder will be managed by the Matron of the Cellular therapy and transplant team and supported by the Cellular Therapy & Transplant Programme Director. The post holder will have managerial reasonability for the two band 6 coordinators. The post holder will also be responsible the treatment pathways for patients requiring CAR-T and Haematopoietic stem cell transplants within the Cellular Therapy Program at the Christie Hospital, ensuring the provision of effective and specialized care to this patient group whilst working in close conjunction with the cellular therapy consultant team, lead transplant/Cellular Therapy Coordinator and apheresis co-ordinators.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will use professional and clinical leadership skills and expertise and act as a resource for patients, donors, relatives, and all members of the hospital multidisciplinary team and primary health care teams.
The cell therapy coordinator will play a key role in the development and co-ordination of the stem cell transplantation and CAR-T service in liaison with the transplant/apheresis director, matron for transplant and the head of directorate services .
Ensuring that the highest standards of holistic care and support is provided in both the inpatient and outpatient setting.
The nurse will provide specialist education and knowledge on the management of cellular therapy patients to nursing staff and other healthcare professionals working closely with the clinical educator team and quality manager.
To provide initiate and vision in moving the service forward and develop standards and protocols for the management of this patient group. Liaise with Medical team in the development, implementation, and evaluation of individual pro-grammes of care and protocols. Reviewing and assisting with standard operating procedures and actively involve with the regulatory accreditation such was JACIE and HTA
The post holder will be required to work autonomously and exercise a high level of clinical expertise, exceptional role model, excellent interpersonal skills and knowledge in stem cell transplantation and cellular therapy.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- To lead clinically in the coordination for patients and relatives undergoing HSCT (autologous/allogeneic) or cellular therapies such as CAR-T therapy
- Provide holistic support to patients and their families, using advanced knowledge and skills throughout the process regarding HSCT or cellular therapy issues.
- Support clinical team with coordination HSCT and cellular therapy.
- Ensure patients and families have accurate & timely verbal and written information, providing advice and support allowing informed decision making.
- To maintain current protocols with evolving practices and knowledge. Maintaining specialist knowledge of cell therapy
- Work collaboratively with all members of the multidisciplinary team to Coordinate and plan treatment pathways for cell therapy within the trust and externally.
- To co-ordinate the daily cell therapy service including the autonomous management of a designated patient case load.
- Liaises with consultant medical team and matron in the development, implementation, and evaluation of individual programmes of care and protocols.
- Maintain an accurate record system and collect relevant statistical information for service evaluation, clinical audit, and development to improve patient care and compliance with regulations.
- Support and initiate the development and review written policies and procedures with information relating to the HSCT & cellular therapy coordination service.
- Support all members of the team with clinical duties and problem solving, working collaboratively to ensure a smooth and efficient service.
- To support the accreditation process to maintain JACIE standards and actively participate in the departmental cellular therapy and quality management programme.
- To ensure the coordination service is represented at the relevant outpatient clinics, ward rounds.
EDUCATIONAL
- To act as an expert resource, support staff & ensuring all team members have experience and professional development with coordination team.
- To participate with departmental educational sessions for the department and trust staff. Provide education on the university of Manchester e.g. Oncology Course, Principles of haematology oncology course.
- Support and provide expert advice/education on HSCT & Cellular therapy to community services and referring centres.
- Maintain own professional development ensuring educational needs are maintained to support the role and evolving practice. Represent the department/Trust at in-house, national and international study days conferences, and workshops with informed practice and innovation.
- Participate in the UK EBMT/BSBMT meetings to ensure growth and education to external colleagues, whilst gaining up to date practice in haematology and cell therapy.
LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT
- Manage a cell therapy coordination nursing team, providing professional visible leadership and acting as a role model.
- Lead where appropriate the establishment of standards for practice and care protocols. Ensure that these standards are audited and participate in the audit process.
- To lead HSCT/CAR-t planning meetings with medical and laboratory staff in collaboration with the lead apheresis nurse to ensure appropriate planning and activity within department capacity.
RESEARCH
- Establish and maintain close links with research teams to develop and expand knowledge base in relation to HSCT & Cellular therapy clinical trials.
- Develop research interests within the specialist field of practice.
- Participate as required/requested in research and audit initiated by other members of the multidisciplinary team.
