We believe that using technology wisely shows strong time management and commitment to innovation. However, personalizing your recruitment application to highlight your unique skills and experiences is crucial. Relying too heavily on generic, AI-generated content instead of drawing from your own strengths and accomplishments may lead to your application being rejected if multiple candidates present identical or similar information.

At UHS we’re committed to providing a flexible working environment where possible. Whether you are balancing family, study, or your wellbeing with your career, we want to support you so you can help our patients.

At UHS, we proudly champion individuality, recognizing that outstanding care is only possible with a diverse, inclusive team. We’re committed to creating an anti-racist, anti-discriminatory environment where everyone feels valued, safe, and empowered to make a meaningful impact in our communities. We welcome applicants of all backgrounds, identities, and experiences to join us in building a healthcare community where everyone can belong, thrive, and contribute.

Princess Anne Hospital (PAH), where the Neonatal Unit is situated, is a centre of excellence for maternity care and a regional centre for fetal, maternal and neonatal medicine. Southampton Neonatal Services are home to a large, regional, 37 bedded intensive care service providing care for preterm and term babies, including specialist services such as cardiac, surgical, renal care and regional transport service which is based onsite. We have a dedicated home team who oversee care in the community. We work side by side with maternity services to deliver transitional care. We treat around 900 babies a year and look after babies from across the south and the Channel Islands.  We also take babies from other parts of the country for specialised care when needed.

There is a focus on neonatal research in the department and we are currently involved with several national and international trials. We employ separate research nurses for recruitment and running of the research projects. We have an established quality improvement agenda and are always looking for ways to improve how we work and deliver our care.

UHS offers fantastic training and development giving you the best possible opportunities to achieve the career you want. Development of our staff is central to the delivery of high quality, safe and effective care. We can offer opportunities to develop within a supportive environment, and our staff survey results reflect our commitment to facilitate your career progression.

The successful candidate will have neonatal specialist training and extensive experience of working as a senior nurse, ideally within a level 3 neonatal setting. During MSc training they will be a Band 7 and once training is complete and competence is evidenced, they will move to a Band 8a.

The modular aspects of the MSc can take place over 1 or 2 years (candidate choice) and full MSc must be complete by undertaking the dissertation. Once the modular aspects are complete, there will be a minimum of 3 months supernumerary on the Tier 1 SHO roster, after which they will be rostered in the numbers. Following ongoing development and competence as a trained ACP, you will eventually move onto the Tier 2 Registrar roster which will include working on the regional transport team.

Utilising their advanced skills and theoretical knowledge, the successful candidate will be expected to promote and deliver high quality individualised patient care; make critical judgements regarding care; practice within the scope of their expertise, utilising guidelines and protocols; contribute to the development of existing guidelines and protocols to ensure evidence-based care is current; and support training and education of both the nursing and medical teams.

As a first responder at deliveries and neonatal crash calls, you must have up-to-date Neonatal Life Support training. GIC and ARNI are desirable but not essential.

Please refer to the job description and person specification for further details. When completing your application, please ensure you have evidenced how you meet the job description and person specification to include transferable experience, qualifications, skills along with professional registration details (if applicable).

Occasionally we receive a large number of applications for our roles and when that happens, we sometimes bring the closing date forward, so please apply promptly to avoid disappointment.
