First and foremost, this role requires you to be able to provide outstanding care to Paediatric patients in the post-operative phase - this includes monitoring and performing emergency airway interventions and managing acute deterioration of a variety of causes. You will be responsible for the pastoral care and management of a group of staff, as well as the day-to-day running of the Recovery rooms and periodic undertaking of the Recovery Co-ordinator role.
Training and support will be provided by the hiring manager and Education Team to the successful candidate. UHS Theatres Recovery provides care to a wide variety of patient groups (Including Adult, Cardiac and Neuro) and therefore you may encounter any of these patients in your day-to-day work, however, the successful candidate will be primarily based in Paediatric Recovery and must be confident in this speciality.

UHS Theatre Recovery Team are looking for a skilled and enthusiastic individual to join their Paediatric Senior Team.
Learning and development opportunities are plentiful within Recovery and Theatres - as well as undertaking competencies within multiple Recovery specialities, staff regularly benefit from theoretical and practical targeted teaching. Senior Recovery practitioners can access both in-house and University-run Management courses to enhance their skills, as well as be involved in teaching themselves.
Responsibilities:
- To provide skilled expertise and care to children in the post-anaesthetic phase, and support junior team members and students to provide the same.
- To provide compassionate and fair leadership to a pastoral team (Band 2-5), which will require knowledge of and adherence to Trust policies and procedures.
- Alongside senior colleagues, inspire and deliver continuous service improvement in accordance with the Trust Values.
- To periodically undertake the Recovery co-ordinator role, which involves managing staffing, patient flow and patient deterioration across all 6 Recovery zones (including holding emergency bleep).
Experience and Skills Required:
- Significant Paediatric Recovery experience
- Leadership and management skills
- Ability to manage own workload and prioritise time effectively
- Evidence of commitment to high standards of patient care and service improvement.

Qualifications, knowledge and experience

- Registered Nurse or Registered ODP
- Experience as a Theatre Practitioner in an acute theatre unit
- Awareness of professional regulations in the NHS
- Leadership Experience
- Clinical scrub skills – generic and speciality-specific
- Provide evidence of supporting / managing a range of learners in practice
- Provide evidence of supporting colleagues to promote effective learning in practice
- Good communication skills with ability to provide complex information in intense setting
- Foundation Management Course or equivalent
