Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Clinical Research Nurse or Practitioner, to join our CCRF team at St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington. This post would suit enthusiastic individuals who are eager to get involved with delivering clinical research to children and their families throughout children’s services at Imperial but with a focus on Paediatric emergency care.
The successful applicant will be part of a first class team delivering ongoing paediatric clinical research studies. This role will involve assessing and managing care pathways for participants in research: including, recruitment, education and monitoring of research subjects, providing support for research participants and their families and the accurate collection and documentation of data.
You will work collaboratively with colleagues in the research team and the wider multidisciplinary team, to support new and existing clinical trials and studies. You will also require a working knowledge and compliance with local, national and international research regulations including Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
Previous experience of working with/in paediatric/neonatal fields is essential.
Experience in clinical research is desirable but is not mandatory, as the role will be fully supported, with training provided to ensure patient safety and compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) to the highest level of excellence.
Main duties of the job
You will be responsible for supporting the safe and professional delivery of clinical research trials for children and their families in compliance with GCP and national and local research governance standards.
You will have good, foundational clinical knowledge and experience of caring for patients in a paediatric setting with skills that can be translated into a clinical research nurse role. You will be required to adhere to local Trust policy and uphold Trust values in the care of our research participants and your own professional conduct.
You will act as an ambassador for paediatric clinical research across the Trust in order to positively impact improvements in clinical care for children and young people. You will be a good communicator and be able to work collaboratively with a variety of multi-disciplinary teams.
You will work alongside the existing research staff to recruit patients into our clinical trials using the informed consent process and ensure that the studies are delivered as per their protocols from initiation to close-out. You will be a team player and enjoy supporting your colleagues as well as having the ability to work autonomously when appropriate.

Education / Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered nurse or health professional
Desirable criteria
- RN (Child)/ BSc in Children’s nursing
- Clinical Research Practitioner (CRP) Accreditation
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of working within NHS environment and with service users
- Experience in managing complex information
- Proven participation in the consent process for patients entering clinical trials
- Knowledge of medical terminology
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP)
- Knowledge of National Institute of Health Research (NIHR), its values, aims and structure
- Relevant clinical experience within research
Skills/knowledge/ abilities
Essential criteria
- Ability to apply current research to practice
- Ability to acquire in-depth knowledge of clinical research methodology and trial protocols and to communicate this to professionals and lay persons
