Job overview

We are looking for highly motivated Staff Nurses, who have experience in a ward setting, to join our nursing team on E3 Green.

We are a 24 bedded ward that specialises in caring for both cardiology and cardiac surgery patients, which gives staff the opportunity for a wide-ranging experience of caring for patients with heart disease. Our team works in collaboration with E3 Blue, our neighbouring ward, having a combined leadership and senior team, which means you have a wide support network. We receive patients directly from Cardiac High Dependency (CHDU), Coronary Care Unit (CCU) and Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU), as well as elective cases and transfers from other hospitals our areas.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Our education, training and development team works alongside individuals and teams in practice during core hours as required. Formal teaching sessions and study days are available as is advice on academic pathways and career planning. Our team is passionate about education and will coach new starters, promoting staff development and career progression.

Successful candidates will be provided with a supernumerary period, unit induction sessions, bedside coaching, and a competency-based programme to support you through your career progression. You will receive yearly appraisals to ensure that your development is ongoing, and the management team are approachable to deal with any queries that staff may have. Furthermore, our team of Specialist Nurses and Nurse Practitioners support our specialist nursing service. We have a firm commitment to staff development to enable us to deliver high standards of care to enhance the patient’s experience.

The Cardiothoracic Care Group provides regional services to Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Dorset and West Sussex in the provision of tertiary Cardiothoracic services and is the largest Clinical Care Group within University Hospital Southampton (UHS). In addition, the Care Group meets the needs of local people in the Southampton, Eastleigh and New Forest areas; in total we provide Cardiothoracic services for a population of approximately two million people. Qualifications, knowledge and experience

Essential criteria
  • Qualified Nurse (Degree/Diploma)
  • Registered nurse on appropriate part of the register
  • Knowledge of current issues within acute Health Service
  • Understanding of personal accountability
  • Knowledge of own role within the team
  • Provide evidence of teaching and supporting learners in practice in the role of practice supervisor
  • Awareness of evidence-based practice
  • Awareness of responsibilities for management of infection control
  • Evidence of on-going personal development
  • Able to use initiative
Desirable criteria

  • Previous experience/qualification in relevant specialty
