Job overview

This post holder will be liaising closely with the lead pharmacists in critical care working across sites looking over a broad range of patients. In addition to developing your clinical skills, you’ll be able to enhance your managerial and leadership skills through:

  • Participation in multidisciplinary ward and board rounds delivering and promoting high quality, cost-effective, patient-focused prescribing and medicines use.
  • Participation in practice and clinical research and audit.
  • Contributing to the development and implementation of new pharmacy services, guidelines, policies and procedures.
  • Supporting Lead Pharmacists and Divisions to effectively manage medication expenditure.
  • Participation in the education, training and supervision of pharmacy, medical and nursing staff.

Main duties of the job

  • To deliver, develop and evaluate clinical services to the adult critical care units at Hammersmith Hospital, Charing Cross Hospital and St Mary’s Hospital.
  • To assist the Lead Pharmacist in the provision of a high quality focused service to the patients and staff working within Critical Care, Anaesthetics and Pain
  • To assist the Lead Pharmacist with training of rotational Band 7s and cover pharmacists in pharmaceutical aspects of care on ICU.

Education/ Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Masters Degree in Pharmacy or equivalent
  • FS1 of the Diploma in General Pharmacy Practice (UCL) or other certificate equivalent
  • Professional registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council
Desirable criteria
  • FS2 of the Diploma in General Pharmacy Practice (UCL) or equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria
  • This must include a solid grounding in all aspects of hospital pharmacy practice.
  • Previous experience of managing specialist services
  • Demonstrable use of clinical audit to improve practice or service improvements
Desirable criteria
  • Previous ITU ward experience
  • Previous experience of attending consultant-led ward rounds
  • Previous experience of managing specialist services

  • Able to work both alone and in a team
