Please see below for detailed job description of the role.

Main duties of the job

The Macmillan Acute Oncology Service is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated permanent Band 6. This exciting opportunity is for leaders who thrive in an emergency environment, enjoy fast-paced care, and are passionate about helping us shape the future! You'll need to have skills in leadership, be forward-thinking, innovative, and capable of delegating effectively.

The successful candidate will be joining one of the largest Acute Oncology Units in the country. Our service is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and provides front-door assessments to patients who experience side effects from cancer or its treatments. This exciting opportunity will help you develop the skills to become a UKONS telephone triage nurse, where you will triage patients over the phone and direct them to the appropriate pathways.

If you have a passion for cancer care and would like a career in helping to lead an acute admissions unit, then this is the job for you!

Working for our organisation

As one of the largest acute teaching trusts in England, we offer learning and development opportunities to help you achieve the career you aspire to. UHS is rated ‘Good’ by the CQC, and in the latest national NHS Staff Survey, we were in the top 10 acute trusts for staff engagement and for staff recommending the hospital as a place to work or receive care.

At UHS, we are committed to providing a flexible working environment. We believe that achieving a positive work-life balance benefits everyone. Whether you are balancing family, study, or your wellbeing with your career, we want to support you so you can help our patients.

We’re proud to have been voted in the top five acute trusts for our commitment to supporting our staff to achieve work-life balance.

UHS employees are able to access a range of NHS discounts, are entitled to a minimum of 35 days paid holiday (pro rata), and we offer a generous pension scheme and life insurance.

You will have the opportunity to take courses such as:

- The Fundamentals of Cancer Care
- SACT Administration
- Intermediate Management Course
- UKONS Triage
- Cancer Care Acuity

Specific to this role we are open to discussing flexibility in the hours that you work. Please talk to us at interview about the flexibility you need, and we will explore what’s possible for the role and service
