We have a unique opportunity for an enthusiastic Band 4 Senior Clinical Trial Assistant with the appropriate skills to join our Research Team to begin or further a career in clinical research delivery.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Responsibilities will also include co-ordination of the collection of tissue samples from various departments throughout the hospital including theatres, identifying patients through MDTs / screening notes; explaining studies to patients and their families prior to informed consent; collecting ‘on treatment’ and ‘follow-up’ data where required; designing databases for local studies; data entry for local studies and liaising with external trial centres for multi-centre studies. In addition, with training and support, it is hoped that the post holder will become proficient in paediatric/adult venesection.
One of the roles we have available will be split between two teams: teenage and young adults and the paediatric oncology team. This is an exciting new opportunity. The post holder will be autonomous in their workload and responsible for recruiting and coordinating an agreed portfolio of research projects.
We have a team of around 300 Research Nurses, AHPs, Midwives and Clinical Trials Assistants, working together across the Trust, within our award winning teams to bring exciting research opportunities to UHS for the benefit of our patients and for the future of healthcare. The Research team is composed of multidisciplinary researchers from hospital and university backgrounds, embedded and working in collaboration with clinical services and teams, aiming to deliver a variety of studies to improve patient care and outcomes.
Applicants will be expected to cover the service this may include early shift's, late shifts and possibly weekends.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- ‘A’ Level/NVQ3 or equivalent in a relevant subject area
- Complete Care Certificate or NVQ3/ foundation degree in Healthcare-related subject
- Evidence of continuing professional development and willingness to undertake further training.
Desirable criteria
- Degree/ higher education or equivalent
- IT related qualifications
- ICH GCP Trained
Knowledge and experience
Essential criteria
- Significant relevant clinical experience in a patient-facing healthcare clinical role
- Experience of data management
- Interest in clinical research.
- Ability to work as part of a team, work under own initiative and independently outside the dept without direct supervision.
- Able to prioritise tasks and cope with deadlines
- An understanding of confidentiality issues
- Ability to work in a large, open plan office where there may be noise distractions
- Willing to travel to various locations in and around Southampton
Desirable criteria
- Experience of clinical research.
- Venesection experience/ willingness to learn
