Our Specialist Breast Cancer Specialist Nursing team are central to patients’ experience providing them with expert information and guidance, advocacy, care and compassion.

The CNS working within this team would be encouraged to have regular clinical supervision; will have a tailor-made induction programme planned and will have the opportunity for ongoing development.
ABOUT THE TEAM
The Breast Cancer team at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation trust is an exemplar service. The CNSs work closely with the Multi-Disciplinary team (MDT), the medical clinicians and ward teams to provide a holistic and patient centred service. You would provide support for patients throughout their cancer pathway from diagnosis, through surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. The culture is one of inclusivity and mutual respect with a focus on continuing development and innovation. The speciality has a focus on research and wherever possible ensure that the patients have access to clinical trials.
The service is based in the acute hospital trust during core hours Monday to Friday excluding Bank Holidays.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
The role will include practicing at an advanced level to provide in-depth knowledge on the care pathway and complex needs of patients with breast cancer and will include working clinically with patients and carers from the time of referral to provide specialist nursing advice and practical and psychosocial support including Holistic Assessment and a Personalised care plan.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for a current senior Band 5 or a Band 6 senior nurse or CNS with relevant cancer, clinical or management experience to join our team.
The successful candidate will be required to work 2 days a week from 8am-6pm (2 x 9.5hour shifts).

Qualifications, knowledge and experience

- Registered nurse on relevant part of the NMC register
- Degree qualification or equivalent 120 credits at L6
- Post registration qualification within area of speciality.
- Completion of all Band 5 (preceptorship) competencies
- Provide evidence of supporting/ managing a range of learners in practice
- Provide evidence of supporting colleagues to promote effective learning in practice
- Extensive post registration experience within specialist area.
- Knowledge of current issues within the acute health service.
- Understanding of personal accountability.
- Confident of own knowledge base, aware of learning needs and seeks guidance when appropriate.
- Able to critically review and communicate clinical information.
