Main duties of the job
Southampton Children's Hospital is looking for an adult or child band 7 Ward Manager for our Paediatric Cardiac Ward E1 - Ocean Ward. If you are an excellent team leader with experience of leading and motivating teams and supporting change, we want to hear from you. We are looking for someone that is committed to shaping the future of Southampton's Children’s Hospital as well as ensuring service improvement for our specialist paediatric cardiac services. We will be looking for someone who can provide good leadership skills, support, and motivate staff and ensure a safe and effective service to all our patients.
E1 is a 16 bedded ward with four-six HDU beds. We care for children and young people from birth to 18, pre and post their cardiac surgery, cardiac arrhythmias, and other cardiac conditions. We received referrals from across the network and as far afield as Guernsey and Jersey.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
• Develop and maintain a ward/department philosophy that has the patient at the centre of care delivery
• Undertake nursing bleep holding responsibilities within designated area.
• Evaluate the relevance of changes in clinical practice and then support and facilitate implementation in the clinical area.
• Be a role model for all and contribute effectively to inter-professional team working.
To be responsive and to address patient’s concerns at an early stage.

Qualifications, knowledge, and experience
Essential criteria
- 1st Level Registered nurse on relevant part of the NMC Register
- Recognised mentorship qualification and experience as a Sign Off mentor Experience as an NMC sign off mentor or clinical practice assessor
- Degree or working towards
- Higher Education Institute approved course in supporting learners in practice. Supporting a range of learners in practice Supporting colleagues to promote effective learning in practice
- Extensive experience in specialty to include considerable experience at Band 6 level
- Evidence of clinical leadership ability
- Proven management experience
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- Evidence of utilising evidence in practice
- Logical and consistent career pattern
