A Band 5 vacancy has arisen in the Woodland Neonatal Unit, Watford.
The Woodland Neonatal Unit at Watford Hospital is a busy local neonatal unit (LNU) within the East of England Neonatal network. The unit admits baby requiring intensive care, high dependency and special care. In addition, we manage a 6 bedded Transitional Care Unit in postnatal ward.
We are committed to the provision of high-quality evidence based practice to meet the needs of parents and babies incorporating family centred care.
We are looking for full time registered nurse/Midwife, who want to work with our well established friendly neonatal team, to deliver the highest standards of neonatal care.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will :
• Be expected to demonstrate good clinical skills and teach other staff and learners.
• Be expected to be a good role model and to treat all staff, visitors and service users with tact and courtesy.
• Work as part of a team to provide a safe, effective, efficient care environment for
patients, relatives and carers.
• Be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care
• Be able to demonstrate procedures and supervise unqualified staff, and work without direct supervision once the key learning outcomes of the foundation programme are complete.

• Provide high quality clinical care to patients, in line with the Trust values and in accordance with professional regulations whilst maintaining at all times their privacy and dignity.
• Accept delegated responsibility for specific activities/areas from the nurse in charge
• Work in line with Trust policies, objectives, protocols and local guidelines, whilst also being aware of the importance of their role in supporting members of the team, and always adhering to the Trust values, and in accordance with NMC regulations.
• Work autonomously and with others to always deliver high standards of care to patients and their carers, autonomously and as part of a team.
• Communicate in line with Trust values, to patients, carers and staff at all times.
The postholder will be working in the neonatal unit and transitional care unit. The post holder is expected to be flexible to meet the service needs and work long days, nights and weekends including bank holidays .

Education and qualifications
Essential criteria
- RGN/RN Child/RM on NMC registration
- Evidence of a good command of written and spoken English.
- Hold appropriate level for the area of speciality (RSCN/RN Child)
- Evidence of continuous professional development
- Completed Assessor training
Desirable criteria
- Breastfeeding training
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Proven clinical knowledge and skills in relevant area
- Awareness and understanding of common neonatal conditions.
- Knowledge of the NMC Code of Professional Conduct
- Knowledge on risk management and clinical governance framework
- Knowledge on infection control and keeping staff/patients and environment safe
- IT knowledge appropriate to the role.
- Awareness of child protection issues and pathways
- Knowledge and understanding of confidentiality
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge on EPR
- Knowledge on audit and research
- Willingness to work towards undertaking Qualified in Speciality training
Experience
Essential criteria
- Clinical experience in relevant area
- Relevant National Health Service experience (NHS)
- Worked in a hospital setting
- Experience of providing and receiving complex, sensitive information
- Evidence of teaching and assessing
- Evidence of working cooperatively in a multi-disciplinary team
Desirable criteria
- Experience in managing conflicts
