Job overview

We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated deputy lead nurse to join our nursing leadership team. You will be responsible for providing professional and clinical leadership to the nursing staff across the directorate, but, specifically to your designated areas of responsibility - Rapid Access Chest Pain Clinics. 
Our Rapid Access Chest Pain Clinics (RACPC) are based across our hospital and community sites. The service is nurse led. The clinics accept Gp/A&E referrals for patients with stable Chest pain . Monday-Friday 8am-6pm.
The RACPC CNS are experienced cardiac nurses who act as autonomous practitioners,clinically assessing patients,organising cardiac investigations, interpreting results and formulating a plan of careunder the supervision of theLead and Deputy Lead nurses.
 The deputy lead nurse will support the lead nurse with service delivery and will provide managerial and clinical support to our team of chest pain clinical nurse specialists. The post holder should have experience in RACPC as a CNS in order to fulfill the band 8a role.
The Directorate will offer further development that can be tailored to the successful candidate and include both leadership and clinical components.  

Main duties of the job

Support the Lead Chest Pain Nurse in providing clinical leadership, providing a highly visible and assertive presence, responsible for ensuring the delivery of high quality, evidence based care. Ensuring that the needs of the patient are placed at the centre of care delivery.

Commitment to elevating all aspects of the patient experience. Work in collaboration with the Lead Chest Pain Nurse in the delivery of both local and Trust initiatives pertaining to achieving greater patient satisfaction.

 Act as a clinical expert within your sphere of work including leadership and chest pain clinic service delivery.

Provide expert specialist advice and develop education programmes on chest pain assessment, coronary heart disease and cardiovascular risk factor management within the Trust and primary care.

Manage a defined caseload, independently assess, develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care for patients during clinic visits.

Triage of referrals to the service, providing appropriate clinical feedback /advice to clinicians if referrals are not appropriate.

Educate, support and assess new members of the chest pain specialist nursing team to supervise and interpret the results of nurse lead exercise treadmill tests.

Education / Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse with BSC/MSC or equivalent experience.
  • Teaching Qualification or equivalent experience
  • Management qualification or equivalent experience
  • Possession of or working towards physical assessment module
Desirable criteria
  • Working towards BSC/MSC
  • In possession or willing to work towards independent prescribing accreditation

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Chest Pain clinical nurse specialist experience
  • Recent acute cardiology experience
  • Evidence of the development and delivery of education/trainig programmes

Skills/knowledge/ abilities

Essential criteria
  • Sound theoretical and practical cardiac knowledge
  • Knowledge of quality, standard setting and audit
  • Ability to lead a multidisciplinary team
  • Knowledge of budget and people management
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to undertake root cause
