Main duties of the job
We have an exciting opportunity for a phlebotomist to join the phlebotomy service within Cancer Care – C7 (haematology day unit). The team are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual who can demonstrate excellent communication and time-management skills. No experience is necessary as full training will be provided to the successful candidate. You will learn to take both blood and cannulate patients after a period of training.
C7 is a busy haematology day care unit that undertakes multiple procedures and treatments. C7 consists of treatment bay of 7 chairs where patients receive Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatment (SACT), Apheresis Bay of 3 treatment spaces and two side rooms where Intrathecal chemotherapy and bone marrow biopsies take place. C7 also provide an on-call service for emergency Apheresis procedures. We are committed to providing the highest quality care in a supportive and fast paced environment.
The unit is open Monday - Friday 8am-8pm, Saturday and Sunday 8am-4pm and on call hours.
Our goal is to provide all our patients who are undergoing cancer diagnosis, treatment and ongoing care with gold standard support and compassion.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
WHAT YOU’LL DO
A phlebotomist’s role is to provide a high-quality phlebotomy and cannulation service that offers the best possible standards of patient care to our outpatients and any other area requiring venesection/cannulation services. You will assist in the provision of individualised care, under the supervision of a qualified nurse and others in the health care professional team.

Qualifications, knowledge and experience
Essential criteria
- Willingness to learn new skills. Ability to work as part of a team but also having the ability to work on their own
- Ability to cope with work pressures when working in high care areas when having difficulty in collecting blood sample from patients
- Ability to work in multi-disciplinary environment
- Ability to complete all training packages including Venesection and cannulation course and ANTT course within 2 months.
Desirable criteria
- Experience in providing healthcare
- Experience preferred but not essential, as full in house training given
- NVQ3, or willing to undertake NVQ training
- Basic Life Support training
- Previous clinical experience in a hospital setting
- Experience in Venesection in an acute setting
- Experience in hospital IT systems
