Staff Nurse - Women and Newborn

We are looking for a Band 5 Staff Nurse to join us at an exciting time of redevelopment in Ambulatory Gynaecology at Princess Anne Hospital. You will need to be enthusiastic, motivated and keen to enhance and develop your skills in gynaecology. This current role is a permanent 22.5 hours per week.
We are a small, dedicated team of nurses, clinicians and non-medical staff who strive to deliver excellent patient centred care for people with gynaecological issues. These include menstrual disorders, post-menopausal bleeding, colposcopy, cystoscopy and vulval disorders. This could include procedures such as hysteroscopy, Myosure, Sonata, Botox to the bladder, Bulkamid and LLETZ. 

We are very supportive of each other and those that work with us. We have close links with BWU, Day Surgery Unit and Theatres, Early Pregnancy Unit, Urodynamics and Pre assessment. There is a dedicated Womens' Health education team who support ongoing mandatory training, post registration courses, and new starter induction training.


As a band 5 Staff Nurse you will be assisting Nurse specialists and gynaecology clinicians in clinic rooms.  This will entail preparing equipment for procedures and assisting with the collection of samples, for example, tissue biopsy, urine or blood. Assisting patients post procedure, either immediate treatment for pain, sickness, vasovagal episodes or help with information and future treatment.

•    Someone who has previous experience of working in a busy environment as an Staff Nurse is 
        essential. If you have experience in Gynaecology procedures or Women's Health this would be 
        desirable.
•    We would like someone who is flexible with shift patterns within our clinic templates.
•    Someone who likes to work in an often fast paced environment but is happy to take their 
        initiative when clinics are quiet.
•       Venesection is desirable
•    Experience of mentoring or teaching junior staff and students is desirable

We currently operate Monday to Friday between 0800 and 1730 (possibility of weekend work). Shift patterns are usually 0900 - 1700, 0900-1300 or 1300 - 1700. These can vary dependant on clinics.

There is also day to day tasks to help with the overall running of the department. For example, checking of stock, departmental cleaning and preparing paperwork for the clinics ahead.

An important part of this role is supporting patients through their journey within the department. Ensuring patient dignity and being supportive throughout their appointment and procedures. This can be challenging at times as we have women who will get a cancer diagnosis or have a pregnancy loss and therefore need extra care and support.

  • Awareness of evidence-based practice
  • Awareness of responsibilities for management of infection control
