Job overview

The main job role is to perform duties to support the keyworker. You will need to be confident in working with individuals in a community setting. The majority of the work will be undertaken within the home environment of the client. There is an expectation that you will carry out tasks on your own unless otherwise specified. You will be supported by the keyworker as well as support from the supervision process.

There are also times when you can support the duty practitioner. This will involve supporting people who cannot access their keyworker and liaising with other services.  

You should have a collaborative and enthusiastic approach as well as passion and commitment in delivering and promoting recovery based approaches for adults with mental health related needs.

As a STR worker you will have a caseload of service users with a range of complex needs. You will carry out support tasks directed from care plans that have been developed by the client and keyworker.

Within the CMHT we have found that the STR worker holds a vital role in building and retaining therapeutic relationships with clients. The post requires that you are a good communicator, and are able to adopt a flexible, adaptable and proactive approach to your work. Display a genuineness to work with client’s needs which at times can be difficult and demanding.

Education/ Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience in mental health care or relevant NVQ level 3 qualification.
  • Good level of education. Able to demonstrate competence in written and oral English.
  • To undertake a specialist package of training which will equip the post holder to work safely and effectively in this functionalised setting.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Awareness and understanding of mental health issues
  • Understanding by the post holder of their responsibilities under the Care programme Approach, Clinical Governance, Risk Assessment and Child Protection Legislation & current mental health legislation

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Good keyboard skills
  • Good organisational and observational skills
  • Excellent communication skills; both verbal and non-verbal and written.
  • Experience in a mental health setting in a supportive role with service users.

Skills and abilities

Essential criteria
  • Reflective, organised Innovative Flexible approach to unpredictable situations and able to adapt to changing situations.
  • Able to read, write and communicate clearly to a MDT or service user/carer or other professional agencies.
  • Ability to work with service users and their families/carers in a non-discriminatory ant-oppressive way
  • Ability to work unsupervised in a range of settings.
